Butter cookies are a Danish baking tradition. While their exact origins are unclear, they likely evolved in the late 18th century from recipes using almond paste, later incorporating flour and egg whites. The iconic blue butter cookie tin was introduced in 1966 by Royal Dansk, a Danish brand named to honor national baking traditions (“Dansk” meaning Danish). The tin features Hjemstavnsgaard, a real farmhouse on the island of Funen, referencing Denmark’s agricultural heritage. Over time, the durable tin became widely reused as storage for sewing supplies, jewelry, and household items—often becoming more familiar for what it held after the cookies were gone. Butter cookies are commonly associated with holidays and hospitality and are widely exchanged as gifts in many countries, including Guyana, where they often symbolize friendliness and generosity. 🖼️ Gluttony by Zeren Badar @z_captures 👜 Butter Cookie Tin Crossbody Purse by @maobabieshop #foodfacts #foodandculture #foodhistory #buttercookies #royaldansk
