As we get ready to watch the Miami Hurricanes 🧡💚🏈 play in the first football game of the season tonight, we want to say congratulations to the 2026 recipient of the Nicholas Rados Rookie Referee of the Year - Eden Pearson. This award was established in Nick’s name through the Love of Sports pillar of the Nick Rados Memorial Foundation to honor Nick’s love of sports, his time at the Univeristy of Miami, and his excitement in becoming part of the intramural sports community at the U. Eden is an outstanding student and is making a meaningful impression in her studies and her work as a first year rookie ref. Eden represents the qualities this award was created to recognize— leadership, integrity, commitment, and a love for the game. Eden was a talented basketball star in high school and fun fact- she was a walk on at the University of Miami women’s basketball team. We look forward to seeing what @edenpearson_ and the 2025 awardee @justus_horton will do next! Thank you again to all of our friends, family and complete strangers who give so generously to Nick’s foundation. It allows us to award scholarships and internships to incredible and deserving young adults like Eden and Justus. So impressed with these Canes! We will continue to keep Nick’s spirit alive and shine a light on what mattered to Nick- community and service, sports and the environment. @nick.rados you should be with your friends watching the game tonight in Coral Gables. We love and miss you, Nick- let’s go Miami!

The Love of Sports is one of the three core pillars of the Nicholas Rados Memorial Fund. The mission is to empower athletes, coaches, referees, and mentors through scholarships, programs, and resources that build teamwork, confidence, leadership, and a lifelong love of sports.
Although Nick’s time at the University of Miami was far too short, he embraced every moment. He attended every home football game with new friends and friends from home. He spent most days at the Herbert Wellness Center, just steps from his dorm, where he loved lifting weights, playing pickup basketball, and working as an intramural referee. Nick thought it was the perfect college job and valued being a part of the intramural sports community at the “U”.
In Nick’s honor, the foundation established the Nicholas Rados Rookie Referee of the Year Scholarship Award. The scholarship is awarded each spring at The Jacks Awards to the most outstanding student-referee who demonstrates excellence in academics, teamwork, officiating and leadership.
We are proud to announce that on April 29th 2025, Justus Horton @justus_horton , a sophomore from New York was awarded the Nicholas Rados Rookie Referee of the Year for the 2024-2025 academic year. This inaugural award is particularly meaningful as Nick and Justus attended referee training together in the fall of 2024. The scholarship, which recognizes Justus’s leadership and conflict management skills, was presented in April 2025 by Dr. Pat Whitely @pawhitely , the University’s Dean of Student Affairs. We’re especially grateful to Dr. Whitely, who first suggested the scholarship in Nick’s name.
We’re honored Nick’s legacy will live on at the University of Miami through students who embody his enthusiasm, character, love of sports and love for the “U”. Help continue this good work by donating here ➡️ https://arlcf.fcsuite.com/erp/donate/create/fund?funit_id=5488
