Since Emma’s last birthday, she’s had a ton of great things happen in her life. She got her Aggie ring. She got engaged. She graduated from Texas A&M. She got married. She and Silas moved into an apartment and both started new jobs. They’re building new friendships and building onto the old ones.

There’s something really beautiful about seeing your kids having incredible milestones and take beautiful next steps. And somehow, in the middle of it all, Emma is able to get even lovelier every year.

Happy Birthday Emma! I love how you are known by how you love God and love people. And you are deeply loved by so many. I love you!

We’ve had a lot of really beautiful family moments recently. College graduation, wedding, army milestone, and now… Another engagement!

Lauren and Tom got engaged this past weekend! It’s been really beautiful to watch their relationship begin and grow and get to this point. They’ve walked slowly and deliberately, and everything feels right to everyone around them. We love Tom, and we love Tom and Lauren together! And we love Tom’s family! What a bonus!

As we said a few words at their engagement party, I shared that as a parent, we only have desired that our kids would: find someone who loved God deeply, loved our son or daughter deeply, and would love being a part of this family. It’s a blessing to see these things happen here again.

A lot of beautiful moments in the middle of this world to remind us how good God is and how good Love is. Life keeps going and growing and moving.

Congratulations Lauren and Tom! We love you both! Great days ahead!

A significant day for the most significant person I’ve ever met. Today Brooke marks a milestone of birthdays. But her life is always marked by qualities of someone who I deeply admire.

I love watching this woman live life. I get to see how she lives in public and private, in social circles and in secret. She serves and sacrifices. She’s full of joy and peace. She’s consistently deep in character and compassion.

We celebrated her over the weekend in a big way last week. Because on her birthday today, we’re in another country, hosting people who we enjoy, introducing them to life changing experiences, getting to be with people we’ve known a long time and people we’re just now getting to know better. The way she’s spending her birthday sums up the way I’ve seen Brooke live every day for a long time.

I’m not sure what the year ahead holds. But I do know that spending the next 365 days together with you is all I need.

My youngest son Ty is 15 today?! I told him tonight all of the things about him that I loved and respected and enjoyed.

We celebrated with some of his friends last weekend doing some fun stuff. And we celebrated with some of our family at a dinner tonight.

Ty has such a big heart for people. He is disarming. He’s full of joy. He brings the fun. Older people love being around him. And people his age love having him around. I love being around him. I miss him when I’m not.

Happy Birthday my guy Ty. It’s a gift to be your dad. I love you and I’m proud of you. I pray this is your best year yet!
