Adjunct Professor of Painting Zachary Skinner’s “Three Anthropocene Landscapes on a Dead Tree” (Images 1, 2, and 3) and Adjunct Professor of Photography Dina Kantor’s “Treece” (Image 4) are currently on display at the Visual Arts Faculty Exhibition from October 6th until an extended date of December 10th. In his oil paint project, Professor Zachary Skinner attempted to “represent human encounters with a damaged post-industrial landscape” in a way that “confronts climate change, environmental pollution, [and] natural resource wars.” Professor Dina Kantor’s project documents Treece, Kansas, which is part of the largest EPA Superfund site in the United States, and this project focuses on “understanding the transformation and finality of community.”

Don't miss Anthropocene Apparatus, an incredible installation by Zac Skinner (@zacskinner) that includes a set of paintings and several objects from his Geo-Robots Series. The work is featured in Future Ecologies - open thru October 31st! Come see us Friday-Sunday, noon-6pm or by appointment.

About his work, Zac writes: "My paintings and sculptures are grounded in scientific realities about our present-day environment and impending threats to our existence on Earth. My paintings reflect my conceptual interest in the Anthropocene landscape and geo-engineering. Some recurring motifs in my work are invented structures that interact with sunlight, wind, and/or rainwater, as well as inhabited nomadic huts, all situated within a barren landscape.

In the Geo-Robots series I confront serious ecological issues with humor and playfulness. The sculptures blur the line between artist, geo-engineer, and backyard tinkerer. Precariously constructed from simple materials, these objects are a meditation on the fragile relationship between humanity and nature."

We're baaaaaack! And our new exhibition 🍄FUTURE ECOLOGIES🍄 will be open to the public beginning Friday, September 24th at noon!

Future Ecologies is an exhibition of contemporary art projects that seek to reorient individual and collective relationships to nature in its current state of emergency. Taking climate breakdown as a given condition of our time, the artworks on view propose visions for what may lie ahead, oscillating between the fantastical and the practical – where invention tends to thrive. 🌏🐌🐞

Featuring over 20 artists, including several members of the Vox Populi Collective, Future Ecologies is a sprawling exhibition including vibrant, hallucinatory, provocative, and political approaches to ecologically themed art-making today.

Here's a sneak peek of some of the great work in the mix by such guest artists as Kay Seohyung Lee (@leeleekaylee_), Malachi Lily (@theholyhawkmoth), Dakota Gearhart (@dakota_gearhart_), Salvador Muñoz (@salmunoz.jpg), Mandy Katz (@philalotus44), Zac Skinner (@zacskinner), Misty Sol (@mamamistysol), Rian Ciela Hammond (@amillionviruses), and Joanne Douglas (@d0ugies) + Emily Carris-Duncan (@carrisbears)! 🌊🐛🦋

While we are unfortunately still not relaunching our massive First Friday celebrations just yet, we hope you'll come by Vox to check out this show Fridays-Sundays, noon-6pm, September 24th thru October 31st!

Schedule your visit ahead or drop-in - details at the link in bio! 🍄🌿🌾
