Performing “On the Steps of the Palace” from Into the Woods (1988) 🤍👡 After 8 weeks of Musical Theatre class at South Coast Repertory, we put on an insependent showcase and the students performed all the songs we’ve been working on. It was a dream. Everyone, meet our friend Mark! 🦎Name (pronouns)? Mark Popovich he/him 🦎Where are you from? I was born in Camarillo CA, and spent the majority of my childhood between Camarillo, Oxnard, and Los Angeles. 🦎How did you get introduced to climbing? My first introduction to climbing was from my neighbor growing up. He moved to the US from Korea and he’d show me photos from from his climbing trips all over the world. Fast forward and my good friend Ian got me a pair of climbing shoes after us spending too much time in bishop not climbing (he climbed already, I had zero interest in climbing) I tried climbing at LABoulders for the first time then we went up to the buttermilks where I proceeded to get my ass handed to me, I was hooked! 🦎How long have you been climbing? I’ve been climbing about 5 years. 🦎What does climbing mean to you? To me climbing means so much more than actually climbing. it’s maintaining physical and mental health, it’s empowering, it’s a community, it’s overcoming something you thought was impossible, it’s special moments you share with friends, I could go on and on I just love really climbing. 🦎What do you do outside of climbing? Outside of climbing I enjoy taking photos, cycling, backpacking. 🦎What do you like about the crú? I love how supportive and caring everybody is. I’ve never left a meetup without a smile on my face. 🦎What would you like to see in the future in climbing? More accessibility! More diversity!
