It was such a privilege to host the 33rd annual Southeast Collegiate Fitness Expo. Thank you @globetrotterwellness and @clemsoncampusrec for believing in me in putting on this event in my first year. It was such an honor to create the same student experience that inspired me to pursue this career. I am so impressed with my student staff and the Clemson campus recreation family & am leaving this experience with such a full cup🥹 Go Tigers forever! 🐅🧡

There’s something special about bringing fitness leaders together 🙌🌊

The 2025 Collegiate Fitness Directors Summit in Wilmington wasn’t just another professional development event. It was a vibrant, people-first experience filled with meaningful conversation, coastal energy, and a whole lot of heart.

From thoughtful immersive roundtables to a forward-looking AI discussion, attendees leaned into what it means to lead with intention in campus recreation.

A few key takeaways that stuck with us:

✔️ When it comes to staff training: Culture > Compliance
Onboarding isn’t just paperwork, it’s culture building. The first day on the job should communicate values, belonging, and purpose.

✔️ Ask first, guide second
Student input is powerful. When we start by listening, we design training that feels relevant and more likely to stick.

✔️ Mentorship beats modules
Pairing new hires with peer mentors builds psychological safety and trust. PDFs can’t replace real relationships.

✔️ Bring back the human
Tech has its place, but connection, clarity, and care are what shape strong teams. Lead with people, not platforms.

We also looked ahead: exploring how AI can support, not replace, student development, giving professionals more space to focus on connection over compliance.

What an awesome life I have to live. Had the PLEASURE of attending my third @sefitexpo and man it is just always a good time. 🐺❤️ A whirlwind 56 (ish) hours for the Hokies but @vtrecsports truly provides the best job on campus! Thankful for another opportunity to teach something i love and present with someone i love (shout out bff @ryanmasxn )! A wonderful weekend filled of meeting new people and catching up with my OGs. GOKIES! 🧡❤️🦃

What a wonderful back to school! Literally all I’ve been doing lately is school and working at the gym! We’ve officially opened our second gym on campus again and I’ve clocked so many hours there already! Thankful for such great friends that are all with me along the way 🫶🏻

What a weekend…

- connecting with friends (staff/students/players/coaches) 🤜 🤛

I spent 9 years of my life in that magical town prepping my launchpad for my 🚀. It felt good to be back. Special thanks to @sean_eags for making the trip and helping in all of the above activities.

A few training clips from this week. I soaked my phone in the lake, so I'm posting from my computer. Here's my first real attempt to bench with my feet (somewhat) flat on the floor. It's a work in progress. I'd like my hips to drive a bit less, but I think I kept my cheeks loyal. Then we've got some sled drags, overhead pressing, and upper body assistance work. Hope everyone's having a great week and stacking +1's like bricks.

The ‘18-‘19 Student Affairs’ Well-Being Award was recently awarded to Zak Worrell, our Fitness Coordinator! Zak inspires a culture of well-being through his dedication to fitness programs, students and staff. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Zak was nominated by his supervisor, Krista Gwilliam, who said "Zak has an incredible wealth of knowledge when it comes to the human body and how it works. His understanding of how movement can help with overall well-being drives him in the way he serves the community.

Carrie Reed, our Business Manager, recently received a Fall Acorn Award at Student Affairs' Fall Town Hall. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Ali Cross, Director of Rec Sports, has deemed Carrie our "unsung hero" and said in her nomination letter that she is "a vital player in creating an amazing office culture due to her positivity and desire for community to be found in the work place. Our entire team feels as though “We might literally fall apart at the seams without her!"
