Bryan Zapata is a multicultural bridge builder. He considers himself as the intersection between STEM and the arts and aspires to unify the most divided of communities. Bryan was born in Alexandria, VA to two Colombian parents. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 2022 with a degree in industrial and systems engineering and political science. Bryan currently works as an industrial engineer for the Boeing 767 KC-46 Program.

Fun fact: Bryan has a big passion for building a relationship with every nation on earth. 🇨🇴🌏

Big thank you to Brian for the enthusiasm and energetic vibes he always brings to our chapter. We can’t wait to see you grow as a leader in our community.

Bryan Zapata, ALP '22 and Aspire Alumni Ambassador, shared some impactful words with fellow ambassadors about how the Aspire Leaders Program has inspired him.

Bryan cites his experience connecting with influential leaders who continually make positive changes in the world as a huge motivator. Hearing about the incredible journeys of these leaders and even those of his fellow alumni has led him to develop one powerful belief:

We find strength in difference and power in diversity, and by acknowledging this, we become capable of accomplishing whatever we set our minds to.

With 30 days to go till @hokiesfb kickoff, I wanted to reflect on my last #30days. So, you get a #photodump of adventures with some of my favorite #Hokies, from NY to NOLA to SWVA and more.
—
And, yes, I cheated and went back to #VTReunion @vt_alumni to bookend it with these gems but who’s counting? 3️⃣0️⃣

In less than a month, I’ll be bopping to #EnterSandman, maybe that #BourbonStreet heat will have faded, and I will be a VERY happy camper! Let’s GOOOOOO!!!!!

Last Tuesday NAHJ at VT invited Maria Elena Salinas. One of the most decorated female journalists came and shared her experiences working in Spanish news for almost 40 years. Telling the stories of the wars in Iraq, presidential elections, natural disasters, and the issue of immigration over time has shown how the world revolves around news.

Everyone was immensely impacted by her presense as she was helped protect the Latinx community in the United States.

This has been in the works for over a year and to see that we made it happen and impacted the lives of everyone at Virginia Tech who grew watching her give news is invaluable. Thank you Maria Elena! We all really appreciate it and it has been such as honor continuing the mission of NAHJ at Virginia Tech!
