![Looking back on some past work, and gosh, 2023 was such a good year. This was the year I finally started feeling like I had found my style, and the first time I felt truly confident in my work. This was also the year I was fired from the shop I had been at since 2016 after telling the shop owner [in late May] that come 2024 I’d be taking an opportunity to work at a new shop that would serve as a safer and more comfortable environment for me (lots of weird shit happened over the years but my final straw was being threatened with a knife at the front door by a man who was trying to solicit me and my client for sex and after I refused him made sure to let me know he’d be paying attention to when I’d be at work.) The shop owner agreed that he knew I hadn’t felt safe there for a while and expressed his support in my decision to do what was best for me, but then fired me the next day under suspicion that my “reasons for leaving were shady” and asked that I clean out my station that day. There was a bit of panic for a minute there because the plan wasn’t to move to the new space for another 6-months as it was a brand new shop in the final stages of getting built out, but thankfully it all got sorted in a few weeks and I began a new chapter of my tattoo and art career in late June 2023. I still feel a lot of gratitude for the first 7-years of my tattoo career; that first shop gave me my first real opportunity to see if I could do this, and that’s something I’ll always be thankful for. But getting fired was the best thing that ever happened to me as a working artist. It gave me the opportunity to reevaluate what was actually important to me and fueled new goals, providing me the motivation to make them happen, and it challenged me to find wholeness and confidence within myself instead of seeking it in external sources. I am extremely proud to be where I’m at now with the crew I get to be a part of. The space, safety, and support I’ve experienced over the past 2-ish years is a huge contributor to the confidence I feel in my work now, tattoo and otherwise…and that’s pretty cool.](https://s5.imginn.com/529796438_18511261552058651_7918053218386652352_n.jpg?t51.82787-15/529796438_18511261552058651_7918053218386652352_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_e35_p828x828_tt6&_nc_cat=109&ig_cache_key=MzY5NDg5NDc5OTQwNTc3NjYzNg%3D%3D.3-ccb7-5&ccb=7-5&_nc_sid=58cdad&efg=eyJ2ZW5jb2RlX3RhZyI6IkNBUk9VU0VMX0lURU0ueHBpZHMuMTIwNi5zZHIucmVndWxhcl9waG90by5DMyJ9&_nc_ohc=ue5C39ukcxMQ7kNvwF8_W_u&_nc_oc=AdpYEUjbMuknHZzzu09ZRO0RAkWoMo9UErdPHI5bzGr4V9bmCVJoRMudecA3Mwy8RDqknBcj4M37CMBk99d7JrGk&_nc_ad=z-m&_nc_cid=0&_nc_zt=23&_nc_ht=scontent-iad6-1.cdninstagram.com&_nc_gid=s8FBqwhffEOFHHt5BXHZhw&_nc_ss=7a20f&oh=00_AQP92Bco7qCKJcrbSaqcfDVbWWfDSrPRkXTtXvFqcXcIYw&oe=6AE54610)
