This is what I’ve been working on the last few weeks: Renegade’s annual Pride Benefit staged reading. It’s truly a labor of love because we all donate our time and the money all goes to support Queer Youth in our community. I love this show in particular because it represents Queer Joy, and Radical Queer Empowerment. I’ve spent a lot of time planning this one, and recruited some of favorite actors to put it on stage and it makes me so happy seeing it come alive.

Our Pride Benefits were created by my need to DO SOMETHING actionable and to help myself and others process the grief and horror of two specific Queer & Trans teens who took their own lives. The first was for Nex Benedict, who I didn’t know but the death and the story surrounding it upset me and others I was close to so much, it felt impossible to not do something. And then last Spring, we lost a member of our own community, Casper Miller and it shook us to our core. We know that trans teens lives are at risk in this society, we know tragedies happen, but when it happens right here among us, when you loose someone you were expecting to watch grow into their adulthood… It’s shocking and terrible in ways I don’t have words for. Thr scholarship fund we have created in his memory is just one way we try to reconcile that grief.

I know we all have so much we are carrying right now, but this show means SO much to me. If you are able, please join us this Saturday. There are only two shows, tickets are sliding scale and I promise you will enjoy yourselves.

The reveals continue with Zed Warner as Guildenstern!

Zed Warner (he/they) is a local theatre artist who is so grateful to have played on so many local stages recently. Recent credits include: Charlie Brown (You’re A Good Man...), Lysander (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Lucas (The Addams Family), Victor (Cabaret), Tunny (American Idiot) and more both on and off-stage. Words cannot express how honored he is to step into this incredibly wordy, iconic role. Enjoy the show!
