Part of my role as an Assistant Principal, before having my twins, was overseeing student wellbeing. Books were some of my go to resources to broach difficult topics with kids…so here are some that I loved using. ‘Bear and Duck are Friends’ by Sue deGennaro (published by Hardie Grant) ‘The Koala Who Could’ by Rachel Bright and Jim Field (published by Hachette) ‘The Worrying Worries’ by Rachel Rooney and Zehra Hicks (published by Magination Press) ‘My Monster and Me’ by Nadiya Hussain and Ella Bailey (published by Hachette) ‘You’ve Got This!’ by Jess Sanders and Irina Avgustinovich (published by Affirm Press) ‘Brain is Not Always Right’ by Scott Stuart (published by Scholastic) ‘What if, Pig?’ by Linzie Hunter (published by HarperCollins) ‘Your head’s not the place to store problems’ by Josh Pyke and Stephen Michael King (published by Scholastic) ‘Warm and Fuzzy’ by Scott Rothman and Brian Won (published by Larrikin House) #booksaboutworries #kidsbooksaboutworry #kidslit

Love this book 🥰 At first glance it looks like a big, bold warning... but this picture book has the loveliest twist 😄 With vibrant, fun illustrations and lots of laugh-out-loud moments, it’s a story about not judging a book by its cover — or a monster by its size 😉  A perfect pick for storytime and for little readers who love surprises 📚❤️ Link in stories! #monsterbook #childrensbooks #picturebooks #giftsforchildren #funnybook

Such a treat to be at the launch of this gorgeous exhibition!! Organised by the dynamo that is @sharonkingchai this wonderful collection showcases the work of some of our most exciting illustrators today - and was attended by so many publishing folk that most of the party happened in the street outside 💛📚🤩 Loved the chance to catch up with picture book friends old and new - including brilliant @ellamorella who I worked with almost twenty years ago… Also much merriment with lovely @zehrahicks (who witnessed me trying to descend an upward escalator 😭) and @harrywoodgateart @emmafarrarons and @ilustrajo in the most complicated taking of a photo ever 😬😂 (and actually I love it!) Nature Exhibition is at the @the_gallery_at_the_playroom_ - Get down and soak up some urban nature - and snaffle up a piece of stunning art if you can!! #natureexhibition

✏️ Andersen Press 🖍 AD PR PRODUCTS Recently we were sent an amazing bundle of picture books from @andersenpress, and each one is wonderful in it's own way! 🦊Room for One More by Frances Stickley and Jessica Ciccolone 🐿 - a great story with a wonderful message for children in nursery or KS1 about making friends, being jealous and how to include new people. We loved the competing element here but it did make us sad that everyone couldn't just get along - do you think Badger, Squirrel and Fox are all friends by the end? 🐶Sid and Sam by Zehra Hicks 👴- a sad story with a happy ending about a man and his dog who have a lovely life together before Sam sadly becomes ill and dies. Can Sid find another home and someone to love as much as he loved Sam? This left us feeling so hopeful for Sid's fresh start and happy that Sid and Sam had such a lovely life together. This would be a nice, gentle introduction to grief and bereavement. 🧜‍♀️Daddy Doesn't Believe in Dragons by Sarah Tagholm and Alice Courtley 🐲 - this is a brand new release, just out yesterday! It's a very interesting look at what we could be missing out on if we spend a lot of time on our phones. This book shows that children are very aware of the distraction they cause and could make us miss so much wonder around us. Which one do you think would be a favourite in your house? It's such a hard choice! Image of the books on dark floorboards and coloured silks
