A SWEET MELODY

A sweet taste of honey that poured into the space. Our first showcase together, and what a beautiful offering it was.
Coco Nu R's Poetry met movement in the garden.
My voice was a container that held the room.
Sweet Lady V's burlesque movement awakened it.
The violin sang her song.
The water whispered.

The Last Love Letter

We give thanks to the egun for aligning us. I adore my kindred sister @vspitta for her graceful presence, we flowed with ease, together. Still processing how you held space for me, gratitude.

We give thanks for @the_house_of_surrender @zeitgeist_durham for the welcome and to
the collective . I sit in gratitude for your intimate expression and all the pouring of intentional energy to bring such a successful showcase to life. Whew it was magical. Ya'll Rocked it! Per usual So Proud!

August devastated me.

The end of a relationship.
The loss of two friends.
The loss of a few national treasures.
So many different forms of grief and so many feelings of loss.

I didn’t know where to put it all.
I didn’t know how to carry it.

There was a time when I would have reached for the closest bottle of alcohol to numb everything I was feeling. Thankfully, I can say that is no longer my story.

I am still sober.
625 days to be exact… because yes, I am counting. 🖤

Instead, I picked up my paint brushes.

And with every stroke, I poured pieces of myself onto the page — my grief, my love, my heartbreak, and even my tears.

Knowing these pieces may never leave the walls of my dining room, I kept creating.

Then, somewhere in the middle of August, while doom scrolling my evening away, I came across a post from Zeitgeist looking for artists to showcase in the Fate and Folklore art show.

So I submitted my peculiar little friends… and waited.

And waited.

And impatiently waited.

(Which is extra fun for someone with a giant wound around feeling chosen 😅)

Then the email I had been waiting for finally arrived.

The Delicate Fierceness collection had been accepted.

This evening, I get to stand in front of my silly little creatures, place my hand over my heart, and tell myself:

“I am proud of you.”

I am grateful for the people and moments that have reminded me it is safe to be fully myself — in every form, every color, every imperfect and beautiful piece.

There are pieces of my soul woven into each one of these creations.

And I am so grateful they get to live beyond the walls of my dining room — maybe finding their way into someone else’s life, carrying a little piece of my story with them ✨️🖤✨️

See you tonight @fateandfolkloredurham
& @zeitgeist_durham

XoXo 💋 🖤

I am positively thrilled to finally announce I will be producing a burlesque & variety show with the first ever @durhamfringenc on Thursday, November 5, with not one but TWO shows you can catch at @zeitgeist_durham! This is exciting for many reasons; I’ve never produced a double feature show and I feel so honored to be part of the first lineup for a fringe festival in my hometown 💖 I wanted to pay homage to some of Durham’s history with the show theme (and maybe even get a sweet little cease & desist from the cigarette company I’m parodying if my marketing works right, who knows! Adventure is everywhere. ***If you’re looking for high brow antics, this is ✨NOT✨ the place 😘)

I am SO jazzed about the Fringe festival offerings this year! They are transforming downtown for 10 whole days with so many unique shows and artists. It’s gonna be SMOKIN’ 🔥 (get used to the smoking puns, hunny, they’re here to stay until November) Those tickets are in my bio for both show times if you wanna mosey on over 🎟️

And of course, I’ll be announcing the all-stars who will be joining me very soon! 🌠😇

What to expect:

A mid week event designed to fill your cup, leave you inspired, and celebrate the moment.

It is encouraged to bring a notebook or sketchpad if you're so inclined but you only need yourself for this event.

Staring at 6:30:

Arrive and settle into the space. Find a cozy spot, grab a delicious drink. Writing and conversation/thought prompts will be placed around the space to give you a chance to transition from the day and explore at your own comfort level.

Starting at 7:

Lady Giallo will greet the evening with selections of various works centered around science fiction, love, and fantasy.

Local writers will present their own works, including e r o t i c and emotional selections, leading us into the sultry shadows of the night.

Space for casual discussion between the readings will be opened with prompted questions to help conversation flow and give time to truly connect with the piece and each other or allow you to follow up on a spark of inspiration. 💛

It felt so surreal seeing my work hanging in this gallery next to so much powerful and beautiful artwork!!

These two pieces are super special to me, “Kween of Swords” (2022), and “Kween of Pentacles” (2023) ✨🗡️🪙. I started Kween of Swords a year before the passing of my mother, and finished it as a way to cope with grieving, started Kween of Pentacles, and worked on her for another year, finishing her just in time for my first installation I did with @syphahavemercy in Chapel Hill. So basically 3 years in the making. They’ve been craving to be seen and admired 🥹🙈

If you haven’t been to @zeitgeist_durham just yet, definitely go and check out this gallery exhibition while they have it up, get a witchy bev (I got the Witch’s Garden 🪏 🔮), and take a peek at my work up close— they’re looking for new homes if either one of them call to you and you’re into collecting art ✨🖤 up until November 14th!!
