TOMORROW! WORLD PREMIERE! THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 3! 7th House and Dirty Looks—the platform for queer film, video, and performance founded and curated by Bradford Nordeen—present the WORLD PREMIERE of the new restoration of Derek Jarman’s THE ANGELIC CONVERSATION (1985). “Jarman’s lyrical work of super 8 mythopoeia combines UK punk culture, gay eroticism, magick ritual, industrial landscapes and Shakespearian sonnets, orated by Dame Judi Dench. Featuring a moody soundtrack recorded early in the output of esoteric musick legends, Coil (Jhonn Balance + Peter Christopherson). Jarman describes The Angelic Conversation as, ‘a dream world… of magic and ritual.’ British temporalities fold in on themselves in this pining convergence of classical poetry and skinhead iconoclasm. It’s a poncey, jagged arthouse fever dream through an England of financial instability, gay sex magick and queer cultural emergence.” — Bradford Nordeen Forty years after its release, The Angelic Conversation remains a hypnotic and deeply sensual meditation on ritual and desire from one of British cinema’s most singular artists—and this beautiful new 2K restoration from the original film elements offers a rare opportunity to experience Jarman’s radical and mesmeric vision on the big screen. What are we actually willing to sacrifice for the causes we say we believe in? HOW TO DIVORCE DURING THE WAR director Andrius Blaževičius reflects on conformity, performative activism and the moment solidarity becomes much more difficult—when it begins to threaten our own comfort. “The relationship between nations is also the relationship between people.” Watch the complete conversation on INSIDE THE ARTHOUSE, link in bio. @LaemmleTheatres @RaphaelSbarge @WishingWellEnt @HowtoDivorceDuringtheWar @ZeitgeistFims @SundanceOrg @ZygimanteElena.Jakstaite #HowToDivorceDuringTheWar #AndriusBlazevicius #Sundance #LithuanianCinema

New release review on FlixChatter.net 👈 Divorce is tough, even under normal circumstances. But for a Lithuanian executive, the timing couldn’t be worse—she decides to split from her husband just a day before Russia launches its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. This is an indelible arthouse dramedy that’s uncomfortably relatable yet infused with delightful dry humor and straight-faced wit. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ##howtodivorceduringthewar won the Grand Jury Prize in #worldcinema @ #Sundance and is Lithuania’s official entry for the Academy Awards. It hits theaters nationwide today, and I can’t recommend it enough! #supportindiefilm indiefilm

“A breakup scene appears briefly in the trailer—and I had to stop and watch it again.” Director Andrius Blaževičius takes us inside the astounding car sequence in HOW TO DIVORCE DURING THE WAR and explains why the film refuses to take sides. Both partners are flawed. Both are trying. And neither is presented as the villain.
