Hunger Games Today, Hunger Games Tomorrow, Hunger Games Forever 🔥🏹

If you knew me in middle school (or really any time after), you know I LOVED the Hunger Games. This series has been a part of my life for at least 14 years, with the new @thehungergames film Sunrise On The Reaping coming out next month I had to share some highlights.

So many Halloweens, release parties (at the theater AND at home), trouncing through the woods in my neighborhood, and reading and re-reading this series. In my 6th grade English class we did a project on The Hunger Games in relation to propaganda, my group (surprisingly) had district 12 and we made a short film after we survived a coal mine explosion (? Details shakey) that video did not make the cut, but this series took over MANY projects. I also used to have a fan account on Instagram, long gone, with my first ever online friends 🍕🦆

The movies inspired me as a creative too, I went on to film school and always admired the world building of Suzanne Collins and the adaptations. There’s so much to say, I’d never stop talking. It was hard to narrow down my photos, even collaged to 20 slides. 😭

I love this series and fandom, I’m so grateful it’s continuing to make an impact. The @hungergamesbooks are written beautifully as warnings to society, Ms Suzanne writes when she has something to say and leaves no breadcrumbs (s/o Mellark family bakery).

And if you are reading SOTR for the first time or watching the movie next month, may the odds be ever in your favor. 🦩🐿️

FIRST TRIATHLON ✅ 🏊‍♀️🚴‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Today I completed my first triathlon, the Fawn Lake Sprint Triathlon!! A couple of months ago, I registered not fully knowing what to expect, other than my goal of completing a triathlon “someday.” This race was CHALLENGING. I still smiled through it all (mostly) 😂

🏊‍♀️ The entire swim had dense fog, extremely limiting visibility. I could barely see 5 feet infront of me. This was difficult to navigate, since I was already scared about the open water swim (even w/ practice) and it’s my weakest discipline. I was able to get it done slow & steady and finish strong.

🚴‍♀️I started a little shake-y. But, I fell into a grove quickly on the bike making up some time, fueling, hydrating, and lapping the Fawn Lake community. The bike went AMAZING. I completed my 10 Mile PR, among other PRs on this stretch. By the end of the ride I was energized and ready for the run.

🏃‍♀️I went out too strong running an 8:20 pace the first quarter mile. I saw that and quickly slowed down to conserve my energy for this final stretch. I was SHOCKED at how I felt during this stretch. I was MOVING, faster than usual too. Lately I have been struggling on my 5K runs but today I felt GOOD. (Maybe my legs were numb plus a little race day adrenaline). I kept telling myself “oh I can run for x more minutes, I know this.” I really felt my running base and familiarity running on tired legs helped me on this run.

I finished strong and sprinted through to the finish line, smiling. This race was hard but overall an exhilarating experience.

I had the most amazing support system cheering for me! My boyfriend, @zeliggh who cheered for me, made the best sign, captured amazing race day photos/videos, plus supported me through training. @samanthaharrigal and her husband @payton__harrigal who have been a HUGE source of all things triathlon, answering all my questions, and waking up to support me. And @abigailharrington who cheered, had the cutest run club sign, and supported me through tough transitions. Thank you to my parents and everyone who cheered from afar too, your support means the world to me ❤️

Running has completely changed my life and filled it with so much joy, happy Global Running Day! 🌏🏃‍♀️🎉

Growing up, running was mainly seen as conditioning for field hockey, it wasn’t until 8 months ago, that I finally found joy in running. My parents are big runners, started running in their 40s and ran a half marathon together to celebrate turning 50. They shifted my mindset towards running. They signed me up last minute to run the @armytenmiler with them, 7 days later. That race was electric and from there I was hooked. It was electric running that race with them (we’re running it back this fall) I’m also excited to run @rungasparilla with them next February! I love sharing these moments with you 🩷

I’ve found community through running by founding @socialstridefxbg 🩵 This group of women is so amazing, and we’re just getting started. Social Stride has been so motivating, a great source of accountability, and introduced me to some of my best friends.

I’ve ran multiple races now with my boyfriend @zeliggh We’ve both gotten into running this past year, it is so special being able to create memories and spend quality time together running!! We ran @runrocknroll DC, @rittigers homecoming 5K, @coldhearts5k , and the @ibxrun10 together, here’s to more races!! I love you!

I’ve met the most amazing people online and in my community through running. The running community is so welcoming and a wonderful group of people.

If I didn’t run that race with my parents 8 months ago, I’d still be running sporadically and I would not be the person I am today. So many times during races I’ve said to myself, “I can do hard things.” And I do. I’ve learned how to show up for myself and others, continued to spread positivity, and become a better version of me. I can’t wait to keep running through life 🥹💞🩵🏃‍♀️👟
