Up next in our 10th anniversary series, a return that feels like a first meeting.

Andrew James Gustav was among our earliest international bookings, part of the foundation that pointed us toward everything these years would become. Then came a long hiatus of eight or nine years. We stayed in touch through the quiet stretch, a message here, a word there, holding a place for him should he ever feel ready to play again. That day has come, and we are ready to receive him.

Much has changed for all of us since his last night with us. We have grown artistically and personally, and so has he. There is a rare satisfaction in meeting someone again on the far side of that growth, recognizing the person you knew while discovering who they have become.

In tandem with our trusted collaborators @steep_______ , we round out the night with Zella, who joins our resident Frank Paper in support.

Honored, grateful, heart full ✨

Playing the ICA Vinyl Nights and representing @sojourn_boston felt like one of those moments where a lot of years suddenly came into focus. My first full vinyl set, digging through records that have been with me since the beginning of this journey, in front of a crowd that was completely open to being taken somewhere new.

A few people kept asking me, “where are you taking us next?” and that stayed with me. It felt bigger than the next track. There was a real trust - people willing to follow the curiosity, step through different portals, and discover something together.

Seeing so many friends there was humbling. The love was impossible to miss. And knowing my parents were watching the livestream all the way from Morocco, seeing this thing I’ve been building become real in a different way, meant more than I can put into words.

The night kept unfolding from there. At the Sojourn afterparty, @kaierchen_ and @zella__________ absolutely cooked, and it was beautiful seeing new faces from the ICA come with us and explore deeper shades of the music.

Then Saturday, closing out the summer with @socialstudiesnight alongside some of Boston’s OGs was a cherry on top 🍒 Thank you @smadadian and @design.by.alfredo for having me.

Special love to the sound warriors who followed the whole weekend from one setting to the next. Seeing familiar faces keep showing up, listening deeply and carrying the energy with us meant a lot!!

A weekend I’ll remember forever. Mostly because of the people, the trust, and that feeling that there is still so much possible in this city.

Introducing our selector’s for tonight’s warehouse session: Zella & Kaierchen✨

Enamored with the sounds of early dance music, Zella enjoys playing many styles from the 80s and 90s. From industrial, synth-pop and electro to acid, house and techno, he focuses on finding records that are musically rich, psychedelic and that fit his zany sound. With them, he strives to tell a story balancing cohesion and chaos, musical depth and playfulness.

Now DJing under her given Chinese name, Kaierchen, Katya brings her background as a classical musician into her approach to DJing. Her sets are expansive, groovy, and keep the dance floor moving. Drawing from progressive house, ’00s and ’10s house, dub techno, Italo, and other corners of dance music’s history, Katya’s sound draws from the past while remaining distinctly fresh and classic. Her selections balance tenderness and tension, introspection and release, creating sets that invite dancers to lose themselves in the music while staying connected to the moment.

It’s a pleasure to welcome both Charles and Katya back to the Sojourn booth.

Sojourn ICA Afterparty: Kaierchen & Zella

After the sun sets on a residents rendevouz at the ICA, we continue our Friday night under the guidance of two captivating selectors from our likeminded family at Steep: Kaierchen & Zella.

Kaierchen’s background as a professional violist directly informs her approach to DJing. Serious and meticulous, but never emotionally detached, her finely tuned craft is the result of countless hours spent in the shadows, always in pursuit of records that evoke both surrender and introspection.

In the closing hours, Zella steps up to our booth. His selections breathe with a delicious palette of sounds. Coloring in the corners of an imaginative dancefloor, the heartbeat of the decades past are given new life in his hands. Blending many styles from the 80s and 90s: from industrial, synth-pop and electro to acid, house and techno, he stands out as a singular voice in our city’s underground.

A few years ago I saw @scott_zacharias play @ No Way Back in Detroit, and it completely reshaped the way I approached DJing.

After a long night of losing our minds to Carlos Souffront and a weekend that had been filled with pounding kicks, people shuffled into the Outer Space room and began lying down on cushions at the Tangent Gallery. Scott started off the set with ambient soundscapes, and then slowly transitioned to dubby, jazzy downtempo tracks. Before I knew it I was standing up again and dancing as a new day began, and his music had transformed the normal rave come down into a spiritually healing experience.

Last Friday @ Steep I debuted my own spin on this concept, but in reverse. Starting with 120ish old house beats to meet the active dance floor Zella left me, over the course of the next 4.5 hours I slowly brought the tempo down to the 80s, capping things off with ambient records, spoken word and scratching with a dub pedal as the sun creeped through the windows. It’s the longest vinyl set I’ve ever played and the byproduct of years of digging and practicing, and it just makes me really grateful to have friends who give me the confidence to take risks.

Thank you everyone who leaned into the experience, especially Charles and Rohan for trusting me to help cap off their birthday celebration, Adam, for being such a gracious host and creating the perfect canvas for this kind of journey, and Juli for making sure we went to that Scott Z set in the first place. Looking forward to doing more of these in the future :)

Steep returns to a private tea house loft for a night centered around music, dancing and deeper listening.

For those that made it to our first edition at this beautiful space, you know how special it is to be dancing as the sun creeps through the windows in the morning.

For this one we are excited to welcome on local favorite and Spin the Bottle co-founder, Patchwork. She shares our love for the sounds of the 80’s and 90’s and is a vibrant presence in nightlife here. We’re thrilled to have her set the tone for the evening and hear her disco, house and electro selections!

Sets from Rohan (LIVE) and Zella will follow and a special ~5 hour closing from Cutty.

A few months back, @steep_______ invited me to play a date in February. When that date turned out to be Valentines Day, @jessica_j_besse and I couldn’t think of a better place to be celebrating our love than a dance floor surrounded by music lovers 💘 The word was indeed LOVE, and it was one of the most memorable nights I’ve experienced behind the decks. It’s great to see such a vibrant scene full of dancers and positive energy, willing to take the journey with me. I am truly grateful to @steep_______ , @zella__________ @cutwoes for giving me the opportunity to play all night, and the dancers who came along for the ride. The room was moving 😍

Our first party of 2026! We have a lot to celebrate for this one— a new resident and Cutty’s birthday!

Join us in welcoming Rohan to the team. A multi-instrumentalist, lifelong musician and producer, Rohan improvises house music live. Playing the bass, guitar, drum machines and synths, his sets are dynamic and reflect a DJ’s flexibility, able to adapt to the dance floor in front of him. We’ve seem him play with peak time energy in the throes of a storm and with a calming finesse coming down from a rave in the woods. This kind of nuanced flexibility and improvisation within a live set struck a chord with us, we think it’ll resonate with you too!

Kicking the party off, we have Wiersma. Fresh off his label launch this fall and one of our city’s most devoted producers and DJs, we’re excited to hear what he brings for the occasion.

Rohan takes over after, guitar in hand, machines at the ready and some new pedals to debut. Get ready to rock!

Back to the turntables, Zella will have a bag of goodies packed. Psychedelic, silly, twisted, groovy, we’ll see where he goes…

And rounding out the evening, Cutty will bring his signature late night jams. Slinky tech house, tripped out head bobbers, bass-lines that hug you and…frogs?
