POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Had to drop another post before May ended!

Throwback to this piece from a few weeks ago @zenithcollective_

Probably one of my favourite parts of this poem because it’s so real 😭

Being a poet (or a linguist if you like), it’s tempting to use the most prestigious vocabulary, the most vivid imagery and the most insane double entendres all the time.

But sometimes you actually cba 😂

And that’s okay.

A poet isn’t a poet because of all the literary techniques and fancy vocabulary they use. It’s because they allow their heart and words to dance to the same rhythm.

Icl, sometimes I get so wrapped up trying to make my art sound good. I’ll go through countless revisions and still feel dissatisfied with the “final” product.

But I’ve realised art isn’t meant to be perfect, it’s meant to be felt.

Even when I think I’ve written and performed the worst poem ever, at least one person comes up to me afterwards and says, “that touched me.”

And that’s what matters.

The imperfections, the stuttering, the mind blanking, don’t make it bad, they make it real.

That’s why I shared this poem. Not because it was my best. Not because I don’t have poems that are technically “better”. But because it was real.

I think and speak in real time, and this poem mirrored that. I guess you got a little glimpse into the “Mind of Melia” 👀

The irony of this turning into a long caption 😅
