As artists, they have been deeply involved in the analog synth community since 2004 (the release of their debut Vigils LP on Xanten), and have helped promote and inspire the revival of synth wave in the US and throughout the world through their extensive touring and prolific output. They record their songs and film scores in their Brooklyn studio and are known for their commitment to recording on and performing on analogue synthesizers exclusively. MSHR is an art collective that collaboratively builds and explores sculptural electronic systems. Their performances and installations present cybernetic audiovisual environments as living compositions. MSHR was established in 2011 in Portland, Oregon. Their name is a modular acronym designed to hold varied ideas over time, pronounced as letters or as one who meshes. This show finds them fresh off a west coast tour, presenting the newest crystallization of their evolving series Negative Flower. Victoria Keddie is an artist working with the instability of communication across sound, video, installation, and performance. Her work focuses on how meaning fractures and reconstitutes through noise, gesture, and interference. Her research concerns phonetic dissonance, linguistic instability, and the gestural space around language.

For over a decade she co-directed E.S.P. TV, a nomadic television studio for broadcast-based performance. She is a Lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania, where she teaches Listening Beyond Hearing and designed the program’s Spatial Sound Lab. She founded and directs the Spatial Sound Union, an international network connecting spatial sound studios, labs, and organizations, in collaboration with Harvestwork

I like to collaborate with the same people on films if I can – you build a world, or a language in the very least. In the next few posts I’ll be highlighting the work of a few longtime artists I’ve worked with. This one goes out to composer and visual artist Scott Kiernan (@zenithfoundation). 1 year ago today, Fcukers released “I Like It Like That”. Shanny Wise and Jackson Walker Lewis had been testing it onstage for months, with documented performances going back to Coachella in April 2025, nearly six months before its official release. By the time it finally came out, they already knew exactly what it could do to a crowd. “I Like It Like That” came out of the intense Los Angeles sessions that eventually became Ö. Working with Kenneth Blume, formerly known as Kenny Beats, Fcukers were pushed to move fast, sometimes coming up with around three song ideas in a single day. He also encouraged them to stop thinking so much in terms of traditional verses and choruses. Instead, a track could basically be four different choruses, rearranged until everything clicked. That’s exactly what happens with “I Like It Like That”: one hook arrives, another replaces it, and suddenly “hit the beach, hit the bongo” is stuck in your head. Despite sounding like it could be built around some dusty dancehall sample, Ö was made without samples. The ragga voice on the track belongs to Screechy Dime, an old friend of the group who is officially credited alongside Shanny and Jackson. The video was directed by experimental New York artist Scott Kiernan, whose work often plays with old television technology and degraded broadcast imagery. Ivan Berko, one of the song’s producers, also ended up in the credits for “assistant camera and fog”.

Installation images from my site-responsive video Prior Occupants currently on loop on @highlineartnyc until November 16th. The work collapses timelines of the High Line’s industrial past, present, and present-future, using the fragment of the rail that runs through nearby @westbeth_artists_housing (formerly Bell Labs) as a point of departure. The film delves into Westbeth’s nuclear history as a research facility tied to development of communication technologies and, later, the atomic bomb. Both Westbeth and Bell Labs were founded on grand, utopian ambitions: one dedicated to technological advancement, the other to state-subsidized artistic life. The work questions what remains of these dual ideals through sculpturally re-filmed archival material, post-produced interventions, and choreographed performance. A layered soundscape containing fragments of interviews and text performed by Westbeth Artist Housing residents threads through images which shifts backwards and forwards in time. Archival material includes renovation architect Richard Meier’s early site visit photos to Bell Labs, Rick Darke’s images of the High Line from 2002 - 2012, and classified lab documents by Bell Labs scientists. In a series of articles for the best-selling music magazine Sounds, Hilsberg talked of German punk as an exercise in democracy: it encouraged, he believed, a do-it-yourself attitude; incited culture from below; and produced “small daily revolutions”. Featuring photography, Super-8 films, and rare and unseen records, badges, flyers, and posters. With parallel talks and performances featuring musicians Gudrun Gut and JG Thirlwell, German "tape delinquent" Felix Kubin, East German punk historian Seth Howes, and DJ Maya Hardinge.

Excerpt from my new site-responsive film PRIOR OCCUPANTS, on loop on @highlineartnyc every day through November 16. The film explores nearby Westbeth Artist Housing’s nuclear history as a former Bell Labs research facility tied to development of communication technologies and, later, the atomic bomb. Using the architectural fragment of the former High Line freight rail embedded in nearby Westbeth Artist Housing’s facade as an entry point, the film reflects on utopias, public secrets, and what narratives remain when spaces are repurposed. Thank you to so many who contributed to this project. In this excerpt you see images from architect Richard Meier’s first site visits to Bell Labs’ West Street location in the late 1960s before he began converting it into Westbeth Artist Housing. TV is a collaboration between artists Scott Kiernan and Victoria Keddie that utilized a mobile television studio to explore the performative nature of production and televisual language. Through installations, broadcasts, and live taping events, they have built a network of artists and an extensive archive. They held over 100 international events, including their infamous TV cabaret at Pallas Projects/Studios in Dublin in 2012, and built an extensive archive. Their mobile studio, UNIT 11 – a converted news van – toured across the US in 2015. They worked with major institutions including the Whitney Museum, New Museum, Museum of Arts and Design, Queens Museum, Harvard Art Museums, and Ballroom Marfa. The project was a 501(c)3 non-profit supported by Franklin Furnace, Wave Farm, and the Augustine Foundation. For over a decade, Hairbone has inflicted their carnivalesque live shows everywhere from the Metropolitan Museum of Art to dozens of ephemeral basement venues worldwide. Each unique, narrative multimedia performance features frontman de Nieves inhabiting new personae in a sculptural actionist mode, brandishing oversized, text-emblazoned props like picket signs, synthesized with layers of Stead’s synthetic percussion and tangled electronic sampling. A protest music without didacticism, Hairbone often proceeds to destroy their own constructions as their improvised, near-opera burlesque freak shows unfurl. Tara Jane O’Neil is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer and visual artist. She creates melodic and experimental music under her own name and in collaboration with other musicians, dancers and filmmakers. As a solo artist she has released 10 full-length albums, was a founding member of Rodan, and the Sonora Pine, among several more, and has guested with countless others. Samara Lubelski, born and bred in NYC, is a singer and multi instrumentalist of song and experimental music. Samara has recorded and performed solo, and in numerous bands and projects including Hall of Fame, Thurston Moore, The Sonora Pine, and Metabolismus. Scott Kiernan is an artist living and working in New York City. In his video, photo and installation works, electronically synthesized and photographic elements interact to address their own materiality and means of distribution. He is particularly interested in how meaning shifts through stages of translation via technology, speech and syntax. For over a decade he co-directed E.S.P.
