Argentinian saxophonist Julieta Eugenio delivered a stunning inaugural presentation of her third studio album, ‘Mi Boathouse’, released October 2. As one of the most compelling young voices in contemporary jazz, she’s shared stages with acclaimed artists including Dee Dee Bridgewater, Johnny O’Neal, Eric Reed, and Leon Parker. Her accolades include a nomination for Best New Artist at the Jazz Music Awards (2022) and recognition by GRAMMY Magazine as one of the “10 Jazz Emerging Artists to Watch” (2023). The event also celebrated the New York Film Festival premiere of Clarissa, distributed by NEON. Clarissa is a modern reimagining of Virginia Woolf’s ‘Mrs Dalloway’, set in Lagos, Nigeria. Directed by Arie and Chuko Esiri, it stars Sophie Okonedo (Tony Winner, Oscar, Emmy, 3x BAFTA, Golden Globe nominee), David Oyelowo (2x Emmy, 3x Golden Globe nominee), and Ayo Edebiri (Emmy and Golden Globe winner for ‘The Bear’). @annahstasia’s live at Glasshaus feels like a manifesto of who she is as an artist. @liaosauce reimagines songs across Annahstasia’s three albums in such a special and intimate way, that her voice and it’s presence is the focal point throughout. it got me thinking of musical greats like Nina Simone, Sade and Leonard Cohen, realizing that Annahstasia is building her way into a similar lineage with such intention and gravitas, especially in a time where online spectacle is demanded of artists🫂
