To my fellow Swords(wo)men:

Here is something to always consider.

Whether you're cutting fruit or bottle, consider this: The sword is only the medium to focus your intent and refine your self discipline and direct your Qi/Ki.

Might I suggest that rather than just cutting, you pay more attention to where your blade is going at all times.

Cutting a target that doesn't move isn't quite the same as training to use your weapon properly.

Even though we live in a era where carrying a sword is viewed as impractical, do not ever forget that a sword is a tool that is designed to maim and murderer.

One should respect The Metal for that reason alone.

Practice your movements without your weapon first then later start your cutting.

You ARE a form of martial artist so think of it like shadowboxing. Your training your body, mind and spirit to perform a skill set: To cut, slash.

And Just like with shadowboxing, if properly done, those observing you will claim that your fighting something that isn't there.

This is because your Qi/Spirit is being projected outward and is zeroed in on a target to a point where it seems your thoughts/intention becomes tangible.

Instead of just cutting a static target or balancing in one plane of motion, learn to move with your weapon first through consistent repetition of a single action.

Step, Breathe and Blade all moving in harmony.

While it isn't the most exciting type of sword training, you're building a solid foundation and healthy habits that can be used in other art forms.

The uninitiated will be impresse by the flash, flair and flourish.

But those who gave their body, blood and spirit to learning the way to speak to THE METAL are looking at your habits and inconsistencies.

Do they look away before making contact? That is an opening to take advantage of.

Does this adversary have a favored standing position? If so, either force them to change their stance or set up a trap using their confidence against them.

How is their Defense? Are they quicker moving backwards or forwards? This information will help design your next attack.

All of this information can be gathered rather easily from a slight observation.

WTO.

Martial Case Study:
@zer0give

Today's unit of study is the leader of @shredcro. Known as "Zero".

If this worthy adversary was my opponent on the battlefield, how would I combat him?

What strengths and weaknesses can I take advantage of?

My strategy to face Zero would be to thus:

1. Eliminate his ability to see.

2. "Out Box" him. Maintain range using distance weapons.

Using chained/linking tools of destruction are not top priority when it comes to my weapons training but in order to take on Zero I would need to do just that.

What makes Z dangerous is his combat ingenuity. He can construct his own arsenal of weapons on the fly so matching him tool for tool would be to my disadvantage.

The longer the battle lasts the greater chance he has to think of battle strat that I would have never seen coming.

Relying on my shadow magic (trickery and deception) would be a 50/50 gamble. His naturally curious mind may pick up on a set trap.

Yet..

There in lies an attack vector worth exploiting.

His Way is sight oriented. A smokescreen/visual distraction will rend his numerous projectiles ineffective.

The second objective would be to stay out of striking range of his nunchucks by using rope/cords. He has an amazing sense of balance and is quite dangerous with those nunchucks. He would be a issue with that weapon along with his multi section staff but only in strike range

To summarize:

1. Weaken/Eliminate his ability to see to stop his ability to throw anything effectively.

2. Attack just outside the range of his nunchucks and dragon staff using ropes and chains to snare limbs.

When I say I appreciate you more than you'll ever know, this is what I mean.

You stayed with me when I didn't have anything left to live for. I have had friends and family turn me away when I was lost and you were one of the few people who not only was impressed by my arte but wanted to see more of it.

As someone who spent most of his life alone and a outcast, even in the Marines, that means a lot to me.

I can live through pain. I can fight the good fight. But one thing I cannot do is live without a purpose. And Shredcro gives me that drive to stay alive.

Because I know there is at least ONE person who gives a fuck whether I live or die in a hospital bed.

That one persona is all I ever really needed.
Someone who actually believes me.

@Shredcro = My Crew

Thank you for giving my life meaning again, Zero.

I owe you my life.

In return, let me show you how sharp my sword truly is.
