When Mathias Habib died last April, I visited his parents, my friends Charbel and Soha. I wrote then about the unbearable grief of losing a child and the troubling questions surrounding his death. I ended with these words: “This is not a conclusion. It is a warning”.
Six months later, that warning carries even greater weight.

Following an investigation in Lebanon, Charbel and Soha have filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman. The documented exchanges between Mathias and ChatGPT, as presented in the complaint, raise deeply disturbing questions about the influence artificial intelligence can exert on young minds.
I said then that this was not about blaming philosophy or technology. I stand by that. But technology cannot be separated from the responsibility of those who design it, particularly when it begins to assume the role of a confidant, mentor, or emotional companion to a child.
We cannot celebrate technological progress while treating human vulnerability as an acceptable risk. Nor can we expect parents to protect their children from dangers they cannot see.

The courts will determine legal responsibility. But our collective moral responsibility cannot wait for a verdict.
I stand with Charbel and Soha in their courageous determination to protect other children. Mathias deserves to be remembered for the beautiful though short life he lived, and for the lives his story may help save.
Progress must never outpace our humanity.
All my love to the Habib Family 🤍 🕊️

Our foundation was honoured to meet with the First Lady of Lebanon on Monday, alongside our co-founders, Soha and Charbel Habib, and our PR representative, Roula Hanna Choucair.

We are grateful for her time, her encouragement and her commitment to initiatives that support the well-being of children and families.

United by a shared purpose of protecting children in the age of AI, this meeting marks an important step toward expanding awareness of our mission, strengthening collaboration and reaching communities across Lebanon.

Yesterday, I went to see my friend Charbel Habib (not to console him, because there is no consolation for this, but because presence is all that remains), a father who has just lost Mathias, his 15-year-old son. There are no words for that. None.
He made me sit next to him. He spoke. He cried. He repeated himself. And I listened, or at least tried to. Because the truth is, I was shattered. Like everyone else.
This boy lacked nothing. Nothing.
A loving family. A present father and mother. Faith. Education. Friends. A life many would describe as complete.
And yet, he ended his own life.

So we ask ourselves: how?
The father searches for answers. He speaks of what his son had been reading. Names come up: Epicurus. Sisyphus. Philosophy. Ideas about life, about death.
Let us be precise. Epicurus did not teach death. He tried to free human beings from the fear of it.
And Camus, through Sisyphus, did not glorify despair. He insisted that even in the face of the absurd, we must continue to live.
But this is where something breaks.
A 15-year-old does not read philosophy the way we do. He does not build it slowly, question it, challenge it. He absorbs fragments.
A sentence. An interpretation. A shortcut. Sometimes delivered through screens, through summaries, through algorithms, without context, without depth, without contradiction.
Too much access. Not enough grounding.

This is not about blaming philosophy. It is not about blaming technology. It is about something far more difficult to admit:
👉Even when we give our children everything, we do not always see what is happening inside them.
We think love protects. We think presence is enough. We think “nothing is missing”. And yet, something can still fracture. silently.

This is not a conclusion. It is a warning.
Talk to your children.
Not only about what they do.
But about what they read.
What they watch.
What they believe.
What they conclude when they are alone.
Because the danger is not always visible. And it does not always come from lack.
Sometimes, it comes from a thought, misunderstood, unchallenged, and left to grow in silence.

In 2016, Lebanese classic car enthusiast Charbel Habib and his co-driver made history as the first team from Lebanon and the entire Arab world to compete in the legendary Peking to Paris Motor Challenge, a 35-day, 13,700 km endurance rally across deserts, mountains, and some of the world’s most remote terrain.

Driving this very 1964 Porsche 356C Coupe, a rear-engined, air-cooled flat-four sports car, they conquered the challenge finishing 2nd in their class and 24th overall, earning a gold medal and proving that even a factory-standard Porsche 356C could go the distance.

It marked Lebanon’s first participation in this historic event a true milestone in the nation’s automotive story!
