In September we had the honor of a lifetime hosting the wedding for the incredible @zhitzig and Zak at the Inn.

Auntie @cjkettler planned the most beautiful wedding that was filled with whimsy and laughter and the happiest people I’ve ever seen.

I’m still teary-eyed thinking about it.

We have been holding on to some amazing news! On September 20, multidisciplinary artist and writer Simone Kearney will be joined by David Gorin @davidgorin and Zoë Hitzig @zhitzig for a poetry reading to coincide with the opening of her solo exhibition, DIGS.

Kearney, who was born in Dublin and lives in New York, is interested in tracking the daily embodied experience of emotional and intellectual life, which she traces through repetition and variation, metaphor and materiality. She has held solo shows at Putty’s Coronation, Undercurrent Gallery, and elsewhere. She is the author of Dim,
Dahlia, Violet, Stone, (ITI Press, 2024), DAYS, (Belladonna Press, 2021), and My Ida (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2017).

The event also celebrates the publication of David Gorin’s chapbook, To a Distant Country, winner of the Poetry Society of America Chapbook Fellowship. Gorin is a poet and educator who curates the WAVEMACHINE poetry and performance series in San Francisco. He is co-editor of The Constant Critic at Fence.

Zoë Hitzig’s poetry has appeared in The New Yorker, The Paris Review, Granta, and elsewhere. She is the winner of the Changes Book Prize (judged by Louise Glück), published by Changes in 2024, and Mezzanine, published by Ecco/Harpercollins in 2020. She is the poetry editor at The Drift.

A wild backwards romp through a summer night’s dream of a wedding 🌔

This weekend was an enchanting whirl through @zhitzig and Zak’s love lagoon. The full moon was their witness, along with 150+ of us who love them almost as much as they love each other!

Getting to make their cake was just a big juicy dribbling cherry on top.

This was a full moon party with a feral garden theme, so naturally I went celestial. A vegan dark chocolate moon and a ripe summer peaches and cream sun fit together like they’d been locked in cosmological orbit for billions of years, yet each maintained their distinct character (get it?).

For the first time ever I got to slice and serve to a jolly and ravenous audience at midnight. Seeing people come back for sixths(!) just made my heart soar.

This wedding was absolutely perfect. Zoë and Zak are absolutely perfect. I’m just so happy my cake and I got to be there.

Massive credit to my all time favourite vegan baker and muse @manifoldbakery for the chocolate and vanilla buttercream recipes!

I turn 43 today. Feeling grateful for the love in my life. Pictured here are some late summer things: holding my book in my hand for the first time at @henryachapman & @ljmacmillan’s place, me and @ctmccurdy preparing to celebrate @zhitzig and Zak, seeing @nineinchnails 30 years after the first time I saw them (1995 with David Bowie, I was 13), editing a little something by the brilliant @bolingbroken forthcoming soon, a poem by A. R. Ammons I read bc @grodyogre posted a pic of the book it’s in a few weeks ago, a plea for Gaza, a poetry course to come, etc. Thank you my friends for the birthday love & I hope you’re taking care of yourselves and one another. If you’re in Brooklyn tonight, I’ll be at Weather Up on Vanderbilt from 8:30 pm till 2013 and would love to see you xod
