UNSEEN PRESENTS: PODCAST SERIES: SARD

A self-described “rave generalist”, sard is a DJ, producer, and live PA artist living in Detroit.

Combining his passions for devising the perfect dancefloor and examining the deeper technical aspects of dance music, sard’s productions and performances have maintained a steady resonance in the Midwest, with emphatic reverberations in the thriving underground scenes of Brooklyn, Montreal, and beyond.

sard channels a life dedicated to music study into his sound, blending North American techno, acid, and electro foundations with dynamic, future-forward and detail-rich production that modulates, melts, jacks, and freaks just as meaningfully in headphones as it does on a warehouse system.

sard’s releases on Fixed Rhythms, PPRZ, Mechanical, and Codec Recordings have been played globally by peers and heroes alike. His performances at countless underground parties and beloved techno gatherings like The Great Beyond and Movement have left the lasting impression that a sard live hardware set is not one to miss.

Words on the Mix:

This is a mix of tracks that I love – some classics to me, some new. I really wanted this mix to encapsulate the transitory feeling of Fall, my favorite season in Detroit. Knowing that summer is over, still trying to enjoy ourselves but buckling up for the inevitable cold. These are tracks I would likely play for an opening set, something I haven’t had the chance to do in a while! Really happy to feature some excellent work from so many friends, including Young Muscle, S. Talbot, Huey Mnemonic, Extra, and Raymond Owen.

Zil closed the night with the kind of deep, dark techno you do not get to hear every other night. Emotionally moving and patient, pulling everyone somewhere further in as the sky began to lighten.

Also from Denver, Colorado, and we were so thankful he shared his passion with us.

Today was the first cool and cloudy day we’ve had in London for months, the vibes just felt right so had a coffee, opened the curtains to the windows on my balcony, stared outside into the distance for 5 minutes and then headed over to my record shelf, switched on the xone, turntables and speakers, grabbed the first record out the shelf and let the vibes carry me away. I’d say the listeners of the Unseen mix series are in for the classic kind of melancholic heady mix you’d expect from a day like today with a couple energetic pick me ups scattered throughout the listening experience.
