Hop across the pond! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I am from England, and sadly, I chose to live about as far as I could from my family who all still live over there! I try to go once a year, but with busy schedules, it’s always tricky to align. So it’s always incredibly special when the stars align to get everyone together in the Cotswolds ✨✨✨

2016. The year I graduated college in LA & moved full time to Maui at 21, my forever home!! The year I kited an insane amount to make up for lost time in the ocean, really started to learn to surf, & made besties with @britoliphant pet pig pearl. 😎 10 years whooaaa!!

1 year ago today, I finished 12 cycles of chemotherapy. My doctor told me it would likely take one year to feel normal again—and I’ve had this milestone etched in my mind ever since.

This time last year, my body looked and felt very different. Chemo knocked me off my feet. Made me bald, took away a lot of my muscle mass, gave me cardiac, respiratory, and gut problems, left me with residual foot neuropathy, & caused me to lose a lot of faith in my body. But over the past 1 year, I’ve learned that recovery is not linear and I’m not going to feel 100% overnight. I’ve learned to trust the process and take every day one at a time. I’ve had a lot of fun in the journey & rebuilding process - that has been 100% my focus this year. I’ve built back a lot of my strength and endurance and while it’s not perfect, I’m learning to push my limits more than normal to get back to where I want to be.

Last year was the worst, best experience of my life - I would never want to do it again, but know this experience shaped how I think about life and what is important moving forward.

It’s wild to look back on everything that’s filled this year: I’ve surfed, kitesurfed, wingfoiled, downwinded, run, biked and hiked my way across home in Maui. I’ve traveled to New Zealand and Tarifa with Armstrong, solo-trekked through New Zealand’s backcountry, hiked mountains in Wyoming’s winter and fall, explored the Italian and French Alps, spoke on a panel in Denver, filmed projects, trained for an ultramarathon, surfed in Portugal, learned to parawing, and spent time in England with my family and my beautiful niece Isla.

Here’s to the year that brought me back to life & thank you all for following this wild and fun journey. 🌊💙

A lot has happened since the last update! 🫶🏼
I have had 2 more chemo infusions, I had family in Los Angeles over the past month, and @ian.walsh and I have been adjusting to a new normal / routine.

Learning to live at a different kind of daily baseline - fatigue, full body aches, what they call “chemo brain,” issues with my mucosa, anxiety leading up to each chemo infusion, anxiety about getting sick while immunocompromised, and new chemo side effects popping up on a weekly basis. It’s funny, the “good” days aren’t necessarily without pain or symptoms, they are just days I can manage it a bit better.

But the knowledge that the storm shall pass and the impermanence of it all keeps me going!

Both amazing and difficult moments over this past month. Here’s a tiny photo series of some happenings over here in LA from the past month:

Coffee dates. I’ve been hyper focused on movement (without overdoing it). Family adventures. Toxic infusions. Amazing food. A positive scan, but doesn’t change the chemo plan. Pool hangs. Self care. Dinner dates. Zillah laughs. Pondering life after this - excited about the life I get to lead once I’m passed this!

Chemo #7 out of 12 today 🦾 I’m currently sick 🤒 so tbd and it might be delayed a week but hoping to keep pressing forward.
