This picture shows a diesel locomotive of the series D10. It belongs to the narrow-gauge Zillertalbahn in Austria.

This diesel hydraulic locomotive was originally built for the national railway of Yugoslavia (JŽ) in 1970. After she was built by Đuro Đaković in modern day Croatia, she was inaugurated in 1970 as JŽ 740 (JŽ 740-007). They were built to replace the narrow-gauge steam trains. In 1980 the JŽ 740-007 went to Tyrol in Austria, after a lot of narrow-gauge lines were closed in Yugoslavia. She got the new name D10. After moving the locomotive to Austria, she first went to the Jenbacher Werke to be refurbished and went into service on January 20th 1982. From 1994-1995 she got a system for push-pull service and also a new engine. In the 2010s the D10 suffered an engine break down and is now refurbished for the newly picked-up timber cargo service in the Zillertal.

The locomotive runs on 760mm gauge. The D10 first got a Jenbacher JW600 engine with 441 kW by 1982. By 1995 a new Jenbacher J 212 DS with 470 kW. Top-Speed is 60 km/h but was enhanced to 70 km/h. A total of 40 JŽ 740 were built from 1968-1972. There was a JŽ 740.0, without heating (JŽ 740-001 to JŽ 740-025) and JŽ 740.1 with steam heating (JŽ 740-101 to JŽ 740-115). Some of the locomotives are still in service in Austria, Romania, Spain, Italy, Malaysia, Argentina and Bosnia & Herzegovina.

I miss the old station at Zell still. I’m glad the new station has so much exposed wood in the canopy and some nice planting. I like it more than I thought I would.
