Tonight our DTS’ers in the PSU Dairy Science Club were recognized for their club dedication and achievements as Student Affiliates of the American Dairy Science Association. Congratulations to Little Sister Jill Heffner and Brothers, Drew Walton and George DeMers, on being selected as ADSA Student Scholarship receipts. These three were chosen for this scholarship based on scholastic achievements and contribution to the industry.
Our members, Cayden Confer and Haley England, were recognized for their club dedication as Cayden was this year’s Dairy Expo Chair and Haley was the OsteoChallenge 5k Chair. We will be missing our graduating seniors, Little Sisters Zoë Buckingham, Haley England, Laura Dietrich, and Brother, Cayden Confer, as they move onto bigger and better things in the industry. As DTS’ers, we couldn’t succeed in our club if it wasn’t for our Advisor and Honorary DTS member, Dale Olver.

Today in the Netherlands we experienced two very diverse dairy farms. We began our day by visiting the Lely headquarters and learned more about their mission and production process. Lely directs its efforts towards creating a sustainable, profitable and enjoyable future in farming. The company develops premium robotics and data systems that increase animal welfare, flexibility and the production on the dairy farm. We followed up with Lely at a dairy farm that utilizes Lely’s robotic milkers and automatic mixer/feeder.
Second, we visited the world’s first floating dairy farm located in the port of Rotterdam. We are very lucky to say that we are the first group EVER to visit this floating dairy farm! This floating dairy farm was built to utilize the amount of water space we have on earth. A herd size of 40 will be moving into the floating farm in mid-April! This dairy will be using milking and manure robots from Lely. This farm plans to have a high tech feeding system and will practice daily mature processing with separator. This 40 cow herd will be fed a diet that includes beer waste and potato peels in the ration and will also be fed grass from golf course mowing. This facility will hold milking cows, dry cows and calves up until 3 months of age. The calves will return to the floating dairy when they are mature heifers that will be calving in about 2 months. The floating dairy is completely self financed with the support of sponsors. The farm will Be processing the milk on site and distributing the milk through Picnic, a home delivery service! #DTSSpringBreak

DTSers in Dairy Science Club visited CRV’s breeding center. CRV is a world wide known breeding co-op. At this particular center we viewed the heifer and embryo facility and laboratory. We also toured one of their biggest satellite farms, Elegaaster Holsteins. The farm averages 14,708 kg (32,000 lbs.) of milk with 268 cows. The Netherlands is treating us well! 🇳🇱 #DTSSpringBreak

DTSers In Dairy Science Club are kicking off spring break in Amsterdam today! Our first stop was at the Heineken Experience- the original Heineken brewing plant. We went through an interactive tour through beer giant's history in the former brewery, with a tasting room finale! Heineken is the second largest brewery in the world and sources their barley through Southern France. Cheers!🍻#DTSSpringBreak #HeinekenExperience
