On this day, September 23rd, many years ago I made what I believe was the single best decision I’ve ever made, not knowing it at the time. It’s definitely affected my life in a positive way and my impact on others.

I didn’t know quite how to get the message out when I started. But eventually the internet became a common thing for everyone to access and later on YouTube was created. I wrote a script for a vegan horror movie which led me to starting a YouTube channel. That led to a vegan cooking channel that was easily accessible to anyone who cared to watch, especially those trying to go vegan. In turn, that led to a cookbook. Eventually, the movie @a44movie was made.

Over the years I’ve been able to travel all over, meet amazing people, and most importantly, help countless animals. All because of that decision way back when. To all my fellow vegans out there, I appreciate you and to those of you not vegan yet, there’s no better time to make the change than right now!

Wishing a very happy birthday today to Stacey, who not only played Beth the waitress in A44, she took on a slew of other roles as well. She is credited as First Assistant Director, she designed the shirt on slide 8, she was the best personal assistant to Indy the pup, she made delicious food for cast/crew on a couple occasions, she was there for preproduction and she helped out with anything else I needed throughout the production. Couldn’t have done it without her. 🎉 🎂 🎬

To think that all of this almost didn’t happen.

17 years ago today I was driving the backroads of upstate New York, burned out, stuck and hating my job.

And in that moment I started thinking… there has to be something else.

So I asked myself what I actually loved.

I got it. Movies, horror, veganism.

Then this random idea hit me—what if a zombie apocalypse was caused by meat consumption ?

That was it.

So I ran with it.

Started a YouTube channel with no expectations other than to get better at making videos. No audience, nothing. Just figuring it out as I went. Back then there was nothing focused on veganism especially with an apocalyptic feel to it. So I created one.

A cooking show set in a zombie apocalypse.

Somehow, people showed up for it.

I teamed up with my friend Jon, and we just kept building. Collaborating, learning, making stuff as we went. It turned into a community, a cookbook, and a whole lot more than I ever planned.

And all those years later… I finally made the original idea into a film.

A44.

Kinda wild how one random thought can turn into all of this.

I’m grateful for everyone who’s been part of it in any way.
