🇮🇳 LAND, LIVELIHOODS & ACCOUNTABILITY

A 150-page report by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) examines land management in Odisha’s Scheduled Areas and documents serious concerns involving land acquisition, Gram Sabha procedures, compensation, rehabilitation and forest rights.

📄 Read the official CAG audit report:
https://cag.gov.in/en/audit-report/download/120719

This report provides important context for questions raised by two media investigations:

🔹 Odisha: Al Jazeera reports allegations of forged or disputed consent records linked to an Adani subsidiary’s bauxite mining project.

🔹 Assam: Scroll.in reports that the homes of around 1,400 Bengali-origin Muslim families were demolished in Dhubri, where an Adani Power project is proposed.

These are distinct cases, and the CAG audit is a broader review of land management in Odisha—not a specific finding against the mine.

Development must not come at the cost of people’s rights. Gram Sabha consent, forest rights, fair compensation, rehabilitation and transparent land acquisition deserve scrutiny. Allegations must be investigated fairly, and affected communities deserve answers.
