PLEASE READ FULL POST- Freddy (8lbs, 2yo, chihuahua) is available for adoption. Our friends at @hopeforpawsrescue heard about his situation and asked us if we could team up with them to help Freddy find a safe place to land until he finds a loving forever home. Thankfully we just had a couple of dogs adopted (details coming soon) so we were able to take him in.
Freddy’s previous owner is no longer able to care for himself due to declining health and he didn’t have anyone willing to take Freddy.
Our rescue model has always been focused on helping animals NOT end up in the shelter system wherever possible. We rarely get to pull from the shelters because we stay busy and full with abandoned & surrendered animals. Nothing is getting easier, the amount of animals in need keeps growing. It’s extremely disheartening. And committed fosters are VERY hard to find. We need a larger rescue ranch as a safe haven.
We’re desperately trying to expand - our fundraising efforts are not proving to be successful, it’s a slow trickle. Please help us by donating so we can help more animals. The new space is over 5x the size of our current place and will ultimately make it possible to help many more animals. Help us help them. Donate at www.LAAR.org

Meet Gem, the heart behind @CrazyCatchLadyLA. She does TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release) for the community cats in her neighborhood, one cat at a time.
How many wild cats are out there in LA? Estimates go as high as 3 MILLION. And without people like Gem, that number keeps climbing.

A stunning photograph is more than just capturing a person. It’s a Mood. A Story told. An artistic expression of Style. An expression of Self.

So how do you capture all that?

For me, it starts with its selecting all of the details surrounding the model. From choosing the perfect outfit with different layers, colors, textures, and details. Then making sure I choose a backdrop that not only compliments my model and what she is wearing - but choose a backdrop that builds the right mood for the story we want to tell….

I spend thousand of dollars to fill my studio with the most magnificent hand painted backdrops. This green canvas by @zoombackdrops is one of my favorites. Its color is rich and the mild mid-tone texture adds a rich but subtle depth. Meanwhile there is this slight hint of warm tone colors underlying in the canvas which illuminates beautifully when I use a directional light. It acts as a sort of colorful background halo of light that surrounds my subject. For me my background canvases set the stage for my models to shine.

I’ve gotten carried away talking about this backdrop that I love…. I promise I’ll share more details about the poses I choose, the lighting I use, and more…. All things that will help you understand how a beautiful photograph becomes…. powerful :)
