Last year, I remember thinking “I don’t feel like having a birthday party this year” and wondered if it was because that was the natural progression of entering your mid 30’s. I was feeling so sad and lonely, but also wasn’t able to acknowledge this to myself and in turn could not feel or love this part of myself. I was grieving the loss of my romantic relationship, my cat son, and my grandfather in a span of 6 weeks and whether as a self protection mechanism or intentional denial – I disconnected from my heart.

Shortly after my birthday, I listened to a podcast that said when you are going through a challenging point in life, specifically a breakup, you are to do the things you’ve always wanted to do and your grief will grow into power, and then gratitude. I chose salsa, and fate sent me @liltsukachan, who introduced me to @danceruniversity @gil.nicole at the Victorian where I watched in awe of the love and joy of a birthday dance wishing that one day I would be one of my own. This seemed like a far reach alongside the intimidation I felt after bolting out from first salsa class, but I kept coming and one by one we found each other.

I asked my friend @joetotheli this weekend, “Is this what it feels like to be famous? And you replied, “No, it’s what it feels to be loved.”

⚠️YOU MUST ORDER THE PEKING DUCK AT LEAST 7️⃣5️⃣ MINS AHEAD OF TIME⚠️ that being said, @jirongpekingduck is one of my friends and I faves spots for Peking Duck bc the skin is cooked to a crisp perfection, the meat is juicy, and they have pancakes instead of buns! we legit get it for every holiday/special occasion (even thanksgiving LOL)! besides the duck our other faves are duck soup, crispy walnut shrimp, steamed shrimp with diced garlic, salted egg yolk pumpkin, chengdu style spicy grilled fish, and sautéed special mushroom!

7.) Sweetened goat's milk cheese with hazelnut paste crostata with powdered sugar to cover ugly.

Desserts aren't my thing. I just lack the ability to cajole cold pastry (hot hands); the swirl batters (tense hands); and shimmy pretty (fumbly hands).

And also the ability to follow recipes (wandering hands).

Not attractive, but edible. Or at least my tactics of filling my guests beyond limits before dessert keeps them from noticing or even caring.
