2020 was a productive year for painting. Here’s 27 of my favorite pieces from the past year. I have a handful of other paintings in progress, and some fun ideas to start the new year. Thanks to the rad humans that commissioned and purchased art from me. I appreciate the support!

I started a painting study of the master, @horiyoshi_3 from @zozios photograph. Thanks to Zozios for being generous in letting me use your image to make this for Horiyoshi III, with respect and admiration, honoring the legendary artist. I love the familial tattoo community around the world. It’s an honor and privilege to document the pioneers of tattooing.

ART 4 FREE

Download the artwork by @horiyoshi_3
from the book Ryuki – Mysterious Dragons

www.tattoolife.com/art-4-free/

Japanese dragons are fascinating, majestic water divinities that can even fly without wings, and their fame is linked to a number of stories and legends from Japanese mythology and folklore.

The dragons’ sinuous bodies and enigmatic faces make their appearance on the pages of

Ryuki – Mysterious Dragons, with 250 original Indian ink illustrations made by Horiyoshi III. A voyage which explores Japanese dragons, those amazing protagonists in the collective imagination of the Land of the Rising Sun.

As you leaf through the book, you’ll find them immersed in streams or perched on clouds, clutching warriors or tigers, or beside sorrowful princesses: the great Irezumi master has recreated an entire universe inspired by the symbols and ancient traditions of Japanese culture, which he rings to life once again with his unmistakable interpretations.

I’m so grateful to Horiyoshi for this book, it is one of my favorite title of the series I created, The Great Books on The Art of Tattooing. As you browse through these pages you’ll be plunged into a magical, floating world that is full of unforgettable splendour, all authenticated by the masterly strokes of one of the most charismatic and distinguished Japanese artists in the world.

The book Ryuki – Mysterious Dragons is now available at the special price of €70 instead of €130 www.tattoolifestore.com/ryuki-mysterious-dragons-by-horiyoshi-3.html.

If you are a fan of Master Horiyoshi III, take a look at the book Meeting the Masters by Mathieu Master. Horiyoshi III is the main protagonist and with him you will meet the exceptional people who have met or crossed paths with him on their journeys through tattoo art. It is now at the very special price of €30.
