What an incredible afternoon, I was delighted to be with Jamie Oliver at the Houses of Parliament along with some inspirational, incredible grown ups and kids! 💫🤩🙌

Jamie is pioneering for change and to help every dyslexic learner reach their full potential, along with wanting to change and shake up the educational system. He is releasing a documentary which will be aired in May.

Having dyslexia has shaped and moulded my life, both good and bad. The wounds of feeling inadequate and humiliation still run deep and it is apparent that changes HAVE to be made in primary education especially.

There are amazing changes starting to happen and I would like to contribute towards this and pioneer an art programme and creative learning scheme into the National Curriculum, and I genuinely believe that this IS going to happen.

Jamie found his confidence at a young age in cooking and I did in art. I am passionate about helping to promote the arts in primary school. Hoping to inspire, especially those individuals who might find the academic subjects difficult, but can shine through creativity. To give them confidence and hope that they deserve.

Having visited a lot of schools who have used my artwork to create their own art project I am wanting to offer a very special art incentive to schools across the country. Using a basis of my travel posters, schools can easily run this interactive art project into their syllabus, which fits the national curriculum requirements. Helping the school, staff, parents and most importantly the pupils.

I would love to inspire and promote the arts and to help build the confidence and dreams for the next generation. Because I believe our dreams can come true, if we are inspired and have the courage, belief, support and passion to make them happen.

Changing perceptions, finding solutions and valuing that dyslexic thinking is a gift and a real super power.

Thank you to those who have already expressed their interest in my art project, we have you on our database and thank you for your patience. These things don’t happen over night but good things come to those who wait, all my love Becky x

Well, I think I’ve just dumped my imposter syndrome for good.

When MD at Jamie Oliver Group, Zoe Collins invited me to do one of their creative ‘inspo’ session ‘to keep everyone plugged into what’s going on in the wide world and to build relationships, support interesting projects’, how could I refuse? She wanted to talk about food trends, podcasting and find out about my North Star, my purpose, my motivation over lunch with all the JO team.

Jamie Oliver was where my Food journalism really found shape. I’d written a biography about him in 2006 and the publisher had asked for another 3 chapters for a second edition in 2008. As I added Fowl Dinners and went global on the luminaries who believed in his ability to change the world - like Alice Waters - my ground shook. My North Star lit up.

It took me 10 years off and on after that to write Taste and the TV Chef which explored how TV producers - mainly Jamie’s - exploded British food culture into life by making food cool. Zoe was one of my main interviewees.

What a pinch me moment, then, to be interviewed by her this time. We could have talked for hours. What a great place it must be to work.

I need a bit of a lie down now.
