Too long for reaching new audiences, but I don’t want new audiences I want the people in my life and community to hear this.

All of it.

And then I want you to think about your shipmates, and who and what you’re excusing and enabling with your silence and passivity and which side that actually means you’re on. 🙎🏼‍♀️

From the excellent @zuhdae who you should probably be following anyway.

"If you despise the conditions we’re living under, the actual conclusion of that despising is that you want out. You want to divest. You want alternatives, built and led by the people living under those conditions, not waiting on the people who created them to have a change of heart. -- You cannot out-critique a system into caring about you. You can, sometimes, organize the people around you into something that doesn’t need the system to care about you." - @zuhdae

https://zuhdae.substack.com/p/why-i-critique-the-people-more-than

The people - our peers, family, community - must be critiqued just as these systems, because WE are the ones upholding these systems. We can no longer expect these systems to change in our favor, because they never have - they are operating exactly as they were created to operate. We must deprive these systems of our power (time, resources, knowledge) and address the ways we are complicit in order to create the change we wish to see. No, its not easy. But it is possible and necessary for our liberation.

Please scroll and contribute what you can to these overdue requests. These folks need support NOW.

pt 1!!! stop waiting for permission!!

i was really inspired by one of @zuhdae ‘s recent videos. in it they spoke about how many people come online and share their theories about organizing that are based on reading and study without having put any of the theory into practice. it made me realize we need more mutual aid organizers on here sharing their real life experiences—so here i am w some reflections! more to come!!

& pls go check out @zuhdae ‘s content!! its enlightening!

🍲 NEW GOAL FOR SAMIRA’S FAMILY: $700

Every meal Samira prepares is shaped by what is available—not by what her family wants or even necessarily what they need. With limited ingredients and rising costs, cooking each day means stretching whatever they can find as far as possible.

And when they are able, that care extends beyond their own household. Supporting Samira helps her family sustain themselves while also strengthening the community around them. In conditions designed to create scarcity and suffering, sharing food and resources becomes an act of collective survival.

Our new goal is $700. Reaching it means more access to food, cooking necessities, and the basic resources that make daily life a little more bearable.

You are a big part of alleviating this suffering. ❤️‍🩹 You cannot fix everything alone—but your contribution can materially change what one family is able to eat, share, and survive today.

Whether it’s $5, $10, $20, or more, every contribution becomes something tangible.

🍞 Food on the table.
🥘 Ingredients for another meal.
🤝 Support that can ripple through a community.

Please donate to Samira’s family and share this reel. Help us reach $700. ❤️‍🩹

Black culture lives in the systems we build to care for one another.

Representing BLM’s Culture pillar, this year’s Builder Award recipient, @Zuhdae is reimagining what community care looks like. Through Seeds Worth Sowing and the Community Welfare System, she’s creating a blueprint rooted in mutual aid, shared leadership, and lasting stability, proving that the strongest solutions are built by the very people they serve.

Zedé, thank you for building a foundation that Black families can leverage to thrive for generations.

Join us in giving her flowers and be sure to follow @seedsworthsowing to learn more about the work. 💐

Thirteen years later, the work continues because the people never stopped.

As we celebrate 13 years of Black Lives Matter, we’re reminded that this movement has always lived in the people.

The Dreamers & Disruptors Awards are a reflection of that, recognizing extraordinary leaders whose work reflects our foundational pillars and the countless ways Black communities continue to dream, organize, heal, create, advocate, and build.

Join us in giving these changemakers their flowers. 💐 👏🏾

These short essays by Zedé, the founder of Seeds Worth Sowing (@seedsworthsowing) are the sobering calls to action I really needed right now

You Want Shared Power But You’re Lazy, Inconsistent and Selfish reminds me that shared power relies on mutual responsibility, taking matters into my own hands, and not on waiting on others to hold all the weight for me.

Movement Spaces Have Become So Unserious urges me to build more and talk less, or to build BEFORE talking (lest I allow my cynicism to fester)

Mutual Aid Is Not and Will Never Be a System discusses the dangers of assuming that goodwill (or even a high number of good-willing people gathered in one place) alone are enough to consistently collectivise care, and argues for creating an accountable & sustainable SYSTEM around mutual aid practices

Being In Community Is Embarrassing is about the difficulties of sharing community, especially in a hyper-individualised Western context in which dependance or vulnerability = personal failure

And finally, You Know Every Global Crisis but Don’t Know Your Neighbor’s Name? again reminds me that I need to build a strong foundation from which power can be shared, and that this will never happen if I don’t talk to people in my immediate surroundings

It is always refreshing to see someone writing from real, personal experience and not from a theory book. In a world of stuck up academic “leftists” who don’t recognise the primacy of practice over theory, I hope the revolution will create a thousand more Zedés
