Over the past 6 months, I’ve had the pleasure of working as the Managing Editor for @sweetangelbaby.mag (SAB MAG). Under the direction of @zutopia_100 , our team created Issue 01, featuring 66 artists from around the globe. As the Managing Editor, I collaborated with our Associate Editor, @lyricroyy , and conducted interviews with select artists, diving into their backgrounds, practices, and lifestyles. We meticulously edited every artist bio, interview, statement, and wrote/edited section descriptions, all while managing our talented team.

SAB MAG also hosted two issue release pop-up exhibitions, each featuring 12 different artists. The first on August 15 in New York City in collaboration with @tawny.nyc , and the second on August 21 in Chicago, in collaboration with @pointblank.chi . Hill, Roy, and I transported and handled artwork between Chicago to New York, where SAB MAG sold over 150 magazine copies.

One of the most rewarding parts about this experience was seeing all our hard work come to life. Being able to interview, and then meet these amazing artists featured in the magazine was so rewarding, and I am so grateful for everyone’s continuous kindness and acceptance of us into their spaces. What truly made this process unique was how collaborative the development of the project was; everyone brought their own talents and skills to the table, not only within our magazine team but the artists, musicians, DJs, event space staff, and more. We couldn’t have done this without the support of everyone who attended the events and supported this project.

I would like to particularly thank Zuzu Hill and Lyric Roy. Zuzu’s vision, direction and creativity made all of this possible, and we truly would not be here without him. Lyric’s ambition, drive, and organization made the Editorial team’s work much more streamlined and efficient; she truly has an eye for excellence.

So excited to be a part of this project! Stay tuned for our next issue this winter.

On Saturday, October 10, join us inside The Sacred Place of the Most High for a conversation with artist Amanda Christine Harth @universeofharth and curator Justin Dwaun Redding @justindwaunredding, moderated by Anefertiti Bowman @simplynef.

Harth built this room from the scents of her childhood on the South Side. The conversation moves through the memories behind the work, the Psalm 91 verses that name each altar, and the hands that built the room with her.

Doors at 1 PM. Talk at 1:30 PM, followed by Q&A.
Design Museum of Chicago, 72 E Randolph St.
Free with RSVP. Seating is limited.

RSVP at the link in bio.

On view through October 23.
