Design Studio based in Berlin

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

For its 2025/26 season, Berlin’s Volksbühne acquired a striking new visual identity conceived by the design studio zweihundertkilo (200 Kilo). Drawing on the theatre’s castle-like architecture, medieval imagery, cryptic handmade typography and an esoteric symbolic universe, designers Kiril Nagy and Jonas Wolff developed a campaign that favours mystery and visual experimentation over immediate readability. From monumental façade banners and production posters to Tarot-like cards for the Roter Salon, their work extends far beyond conventional theatre branding. For our Summer ’26 issue, we met with Kiril and Jonas to discuss the making of the campaign, the Volksbühne’s graphic legacy, the challenges of working with a major cultural institution, and their commitment to hands-on design in an increasingly AI-driven visual culture. Read A Castle without a King in Himmel und Hölle, Sommer ’26.

It is the end of July, and we are in the midst of assembling our next, summer issue of Himmel und Hölle. Among other things, it will feature a conversation with the amazing 200kilo design team, who were behind the recent Volksbühne 2025/26 campaign. Have a lovely rest of the summer and stay tuned!
