Arts University Bournemouth Sketchbook Symposium 2026

It was a privilege and a pleasure to have the opportunity to return to @inspiredaub and share my passion for sketchbooks with the students of @animationaub, @aub_ma_animation and MA Illustration the Thursday before last. Thanks for including me, and to @hrefnabragadottir, @doriantheviking and everyone involved in making it happen.

A joy to see familiar faces, meet new staff and the lovely other speakers, and have chats with the empassioned students. I just began to scratch the surface of the method, and give my perspective on carrying sketch work forward into more 'developed' projects.

Shout-out again to all those who pushed work-from-life for me along the way; @burridgeneil, Peter Parr, and @charlescecilstudios for also inspiring some of my art history highlights. Some pressure having my own work appearing alongside Titian, Sargent and more!

The fantastic other speakers:

@louis.sketchy
@zzeinaz
@lemismac

Pictured here, after my works, are Michelangelo, Gericault, Monet and Sargent.

📙 always at your side, if not always in your hand, a tool at the ready, recording all the beauty that life has to offer.

Our London sketch event! Massive shout out to my collaborators @kellyfineart @sangu.serin @ryans_doodles and everyone that came to draw/touch grass. (Feel free to tag yourselves) One of my biggest values is authenticity and connection, it was wonderful to see this in action yesterday and left with a very happy heart. Plus, it was inspiring to draw with so many fellow like minded creatives. From morning warm ups with colleagues in Canada, Aus and the UK to this was awesome to expand to this size group! Thanks for coming everyone and share your art 🫶🏼🌳

Loved connecting with new and old industry friends at the WIA UK picnic on the weekend! Here are snippets of behind the scenes, including a WIA sketch (with a Pringle stand!) and a notable character on the tube sketch before going to the picnic. 💌 Love this animation community!

Monday came and went with a smile thanks to @petersposes

Here is a sprinkle of Perry Como.

It was a very busy night, we ran out of drawing boards. That is a first time for us. The quality of the work was through the roof. See y'all soon

Our voices - During this project, each of our participants developed and created their own textile portraits based on their own intersectional identities, who they are and what they would like to share with the world. Together through activities and conversations, we have aspired to visually represent it at the festival and therefore are close to our hearts.

Thank you all so much to everyone who took part in ‘Our Voices’ and who came to support it.

Our voices’ is a creative, collaborative project that explores what it means to be an Arab womxn and non-binary in Britain today, our sense of belonging, identities, and vulnerabilities. Arab voices in the UK are invisible, especially among Arab womxn. Yet when it’s represented, it’s either politicised or dehumanised, with 81% of Brits knowing little or nothing about the Arab worlds.
‘Our voices’ offers an open perspective into our lives and identities as Arab through our textile portraits; it provides a welcoming into seeing us as individuals rather than a joint hoarded. I’m proud to present a collective visual exhibition that showcases the work of 5 Arab
Womxn and non-binary, over the one-day workshop, who together we explored our struggle as Arab womxn in the UK, community, and the role of creativity to create a change.

More exciting news!

London Independent Film Festival have selected Checkpoint for a live screening this April at @genesiscinema !
