Recently news surfaced that the animals at the Karachi Zoo have been starving for 3 days due to food supplies being halted by their supplier, because of an unpaid bill of Rs.8 million. We collected funds and supplies and headed to see the situation first hand. It was devastating and true that they hadn’t been fed. The zoo was alerted that the governor of sindh will be visiting as well and because of this news, they quickly wheeled out a few barrels of food to seem as if the news was false and they quickly denied that they weren’t feeding the animals. We then spoke to the director of the zoo who kept saying there’s plenty of food in their inventory and no such thing has happened. When asked about what has happened to Noor Jahan, the elephant, he quickly diverted the question to the Zoo vet, Dr. Amir who had no answers for our questions either and kept on acting defensive, uncooperative and proceeded to run away in anger when he couldn’t tell us what was the medical condition or diagnosis of Noor jahan. This is the kind of people who are in charge of helping and saving animals lives…. It was really sad to see the state of affairs at the zoo. They were in small cages and inappropriate habitats for their respective species. We must take things into our own hands and firstly make sure that the animals are being taken care of properly and then we should work on getting them out of this cruel prison and sent to various countries for their betterment or moved to a wildlife sanctuary where they can be happier. #banzoos #karachizoo #zoo #animalcruelty

#CloseAllZoos Wild animals deserve to be in the wild, not behind bars or in cages. Reporter shared this video of Lions in the DERA GHAZI KHAN, DISTRICT ZOO, injured , neglected, and malnourished. The reason behind the poor condition of Zoo animals, is mainly because the budget for the caretaking of Zoo animals is very low, secondly the corrupt Zoo authorities probably doesn't spend the allocated budget on animals and usually ends up in thier own pockets. On top of that, the worst part is that these lions are a result of inbreeding of poor lions and lioness on the notorious farms of Punjab and Sindh, so for all practical purposes these Lions are Pakistani over bred diseased animals destined to a fate worse than death to be sold off to a life of slavery in different zoos, safaris and unintelligent men who keep them as pets. The original #AfricanLions that were once upon a time gifted to Pakistan Govtsare long gone, replaced by these miserable creatures. One can only do so much , except be sad about this disturbing fact. On the 14th of August, the male chimpanzee named Raju breathed his last at the Karachi zoo. The timing is strikingly ironic, as this day commemorates independence and freedom, yet Raju's life was confined and devoid of such liberties. Trapped in containment, battling depression and neglect, Raju passed away within the zoo's confines. The facility attributes his demise to a heart attack, a common explanation for animal deaths at the Karachi zoo. A poignant video reveals the once happy couple. Raju's widow, will now be left in solitude, facing a future of misery and isolation without a companion or hope for a better life. As animal activist, Jude Allen said: “Today as Pakistan celebrates independence, let’s hope the day arrives where we commemorate and celebrate the independence of all wildlife in slavery, in confinement, used, exploited and killed for human greed.
