Move over, Angelβs Landing.
If you want the most insane views in all of Zion National Park, Observation Point is where itβs at. π€©
Here are a few things you should know, plus tips for this hike:
β’ There are two trails that lead to Observation Point. The main trail and the East Mesa trail. The main trail was closed a few years ago due to a landslide, so the only way to access Observation Point now is via the East Mesa trail, which is found 3 miles past Zion Ponderosa Ranch in the east entrance of the park.
This trail just happens to be the easier and shorter of the two trails (at 6.2 miles RT and 700 ft of elevation gain) too.
β’ Go at sunrise or sunset so you can witness this place during golden hour with hardly any other people around. Just make sure to bring a headlamp if youβre going to be hiking in the dark.
β’ There is limited parking at the East Mesa trailhead, so if you canβt get a parking spot, you can catch a shuttle (cost is $7/person) from Zion Ponderosa Ranch. Just make sure you know what time to get the return shuttle.
β’ If you really want NO crowds, do this hike in the Winter. Plus, itβs magical with a dusting of snow on the red canyon walls. π

Utah is so beautiful in the fall and a day out in Park City was on our list!
This past weekend, I took one of my daughters and her friends to Park City, for some fun picture taking, hiking and yummy food.

Big beautiful white barn, a creek and bridge, classic mountain backups, and open fields.
And an added bonus, just west of the farm, you can walk along the nature trail and enjoy all the creative scarecrow displays created by local residents, open through October 28th.
Tip: I am not a professional photographer, but going 30-45 minutes before dusk provides the best lighting.

No entry fee and just used my iPhone.

π White Pocket, Arizona
Definitely not in Kansas anymore (although head to stories or my last reel to see what we just brought home from Kansas πΆ).
If you canβt get permits for The Wave, White Pocket is a perfect alternative and has no permit. You can start from Page, Arizona, or from Kanab, Utah (where Wave permits are given out).
If you donβt feel safe driving there or are worried about the roads, take a tour with @dreamlandsafari (we used them for South Coyote Buttes and loved them - ask for @hoodoohealey).
β¨ Tips for White Pocket β¨

Make sure to practice leave no trace - there are no bathrooms or facilities out here. Pack it in, pack it out.
Youβll need a high clearance 4x4 to make it here - the worst of the deep sand is just before you arrive. Expect it to take 2 hours each way (if you are comfortable with the roads - it can take much longer otherwise).
The best way to see this part of the Vermilion Cliffs is to be there for sunset or sunrise (or both).
Take the route from Page, Arizona (even if you are coming from Kanab, Utah) for the smoothest route. Stop at the Jacob Lake Inn and get some cookies (lemon zucchini was my favorite) and use the bathroom - itβs the last one you will see.
You are unlikely to pass others on the road, so make sure you have what you need if you break down or get stuck (there isnβt much service along the way - itβs hit or miss). Bring plenty of water and enough food to get you through.
There is no shade, so bring sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat to protect yourself from the brutal Arizona/Utah sun.

π₯Ύ 1.5 mile loop
β°οΈ 515 ft elevation gain
π Start and finish at Sunset Point
π‘ Queens Garden/Navajo Loop
π₯Ύ 3 mile loop
β°οΈ 652 ft elevation gain
π Start at Sunset Point and begin hiking on the Rim Trail towards Sunrise Point and the Queens Garden Loop, then choose to hike up either side of the Navajo Loop and finish at Sunset Point.
π΄ Figure 8 Combination Loop
π₯Ύ 6.3 mile loop
β°οΈ 1,499 ft elevation gain
π Start at Sunset Point and hike like you would down the Queens Garden Trail, then continue on the Peek-A-Boo Loop before meeting back up with the Navajo Loop. Choose either side of the Navajo Loop to continue back up to Sunset Point.
If you are able to, I suggest at least doing the Queens Garden/Navajo Loop! Itβs my favorite hike in Bryce Canyon. Make sure you start early to beat the heat and brings plenty of water with you.
