Barcelona celebrates La Mercè with human towers ❤️
Known as castells, these spectacular human towers are one of Catalonia’s most iconic traditions.
The tradition dates back centuries and began in the area around Valls and Tarragona, before spreading across Catalonia. Every person has a role — from the strong base at the bottom to the smallest child who climbs to the very top.
It’s not just about strength. It’s about trust, balance, courage and an entire community working as one.
Watching the tower rise in front of you is an unforgettable experience 🤯

If you visit Gràcia during its famous neighbourhood festivals, you might notice that the decorations are not the only thing attracting attention.
Among the colourful streets and crowded squares, you’ll also find messages reflecting the strong cultural and political identity of the neighbourhood.
The banners around the neighbourhood read:
“Benvingudes a la Vila de Gràcia. Això no és Espanya. Som Països Catalans.”
“Welcome to the Vila de Gràcia. This is not Spain. We are the Catalan Countries.”
“Gràcia per viure, no per al turisme.”
“Gràcia is for living, not for tourism.”
These messages reflect some of the cultural and political views you may encounter in Barcelona.
Barcelona is a city with many different identities, opinions and ways of seeing itself.
It’s also worth mentioning that this video only shows a very small part of the festivities, filmed in one small square. The Gràcia Festival takes place across many streets and squares throughout the neighbourhood, with decorations, activities and different scenes continuing far beyond what you see in this video.
So if you’re visiting Gràcia to experience the festivities, enjoy the streets, the decorations and the atmosphere, but please respect the locals who live here and remember that this is their neighbourhood first.

High above Barcelona, Montserrat feels completely removed from the city below.
The mountains here have such unusual shapes that the landscape almost doesn’t look real, and somewhere between them sits a monastery that has been drawing people here for centuries.
It’s also home to the Black Madonna, one of Catalonia’s most important religious symbols, but even without knowing the history, the setting alone makes this place worth seeing.
Definitely one of the places I’d recommend making time for while in Barcelona 👌🏼
