Inhaling laughing gas, or nitrous oxide (N2O), is a safe and effective way to relieve pain and anxiety associated with procedures for otherwise healthy individuals. As a side benefit, chatty patients on laughing gas may also relieve the staff’s pain and anxiety while on shift 🤣🤣

It's very accurate, educational, emotion-provoking, and also has a little bit of humor. It does an excellent job showing what our colleagues in the ER have to deal with on a daily basis.
I feel like our ER colleagues are generally underappreciated, especially considering how much they did for us all during Covid. It's unfortunate that burnout is so high amongst that specialty, but I'm hopeful that things can improve.
As an orthopedic surgeon who has spent a lot of time interacting with the ER, I do appreciate what they do for us. It's definitely not easy having to know the basic management of so many medical conditions.
