There was a time when nursing felt like a calling. 🩺🤍 We were proud of the work. We wanted to make a difference. ✨ We believed caring deeply would always be enough. 🫶🏼 But somewhere between unsafe assignments, missed lunches, endless charting, short staffing, mandatory overtime, and being asked to do more with less… something changed. 🚨📋⏰😔 Not because nurses stopped caring. We still notice the fear behind a patient’s questions. 🥺 We still hold hands when families receive devastating news. 🤝💔 We still stay late because we can’t leave something unfinished. 🏥🌙 And we still carry certain patients home in our hearts. 🩺💭 But caring should not require sacrificing our health, our families, our peace, and every part of ourselves. 🧠💙🏠 Nobody grieves what nursing has become more than the nurses who remember what it once felt like. 😢 We didn’t stop caring. 🤍 We simply became tired of being asked to prove it by breaking ourselves. 🫶🏼💔 If you once loved nursing but barely recognize it now, you are not alone. 💙 Share this with a nurse who needs to feel understood today. 📲✨ #NurseBurnout #ERNurse #NurseLife #HealthcareWorkers #NursesOfInstagram

Med-Surg taught me how to be a nurse. The ER taught me when to break the routine. 👇🏾 When I transitioned from Med-Surg to emergency nursing, these were 3 habits I had to unlearn: 1. Waiting for the full picture before acting On Med-Surg, we’re used to reviewing the chart, labs, history, and orders. In the ER? Most times you don’t have that luxury. I learned to start with ABCs and the biggest immediate threat and fill in the rest as information becomes available. 2. Planning my entire shift around a routine Med passes. Assessments. Rounds. Repeat. The ER quickly taught me that your plan can change in seconds. A new critical patient, a sudden change in condition, or a trauma coming through the door can rearrange everything. I had to learn to prioritize by acuity not by the clock. 3. Trying to chart a full head-to-toe on everyone Med-Surg trained me to think comprehensively. That foundation still matters. But ER documentation taught me to be more focused: What brought the patient in? What did I assess? What changed? What did we do? How did they respond? The goal isn’t to chart less. It’s to chart what matters while still keeping eyes on your other patients. Med-Surg gave me the foundation. The ER taught me how to adapt it. If you’re a Med-Surg nurse thinking about making the move to the ER, save this and follow along. I share the ER lessons I wish I knew before I made the transition. 🤍 #ERNurse #MedSurgNurse #EmergencyNursing #NurseEducation #nurseofinstagram

The biggest difference between the ER and ICU? The ER is about figuring out WHAT is happening. The ICU is about figuring out WHY it’s happening — and what we’re going to do about it. In the ER, you’re moving fast: stabilize, diagnose, treat, disposition. In the ICU, the patient is already yours. Now you’re watching the trends, managing multiple systems, titrating drips, and constantly asking, “What’s changing, and what does that mean?” Both require strong assessment skills. Both require you to think on your feet. But the mindset is different. And honestly? Working in both has made me a better nurse. ER nurses — ICU nurses — what would YOU say is the biggest difference? 👇🏾 Follow for more nursing education, career insight, and real-world nursing experiences. 🩺 . . . #nursing #ernurse #icunurse #nursingeducation #registerednurse
