Could you do this job hundreds of feet above the ground? ⚡😳
High-voltage transmission work is one of those jobs most people will never see up close.
These lineworkers operate at extreme heights, installing and maintaining critical components of the transmission system where precision, coordination and strict safety procedures are essential.
What looks terrifying to most of us is another day at work for highly trained crews who help keep the power grid running.
One question: could you work up there? 👇
Respect to the professionals who keep our energy infrastructure connected. ⚡🗼

Elon Musk recently warned that China could outpace every other country in artificial intelligence computing power. He highlighted that China’s ability to rapidly scale electricity output gives it a major edge in supporting the massive energy demands of AI systems.
Musk said that by 2026 China’s electricity generation could be about three times that of the United States, fueling sprawling AI data centers.
He also suggested that while chips matter, China will eventually “figure out the chips.”
This doesn’t mean defeat but signals how energy infrastructure and compute capacity are now central to the global AI race.

Japan is redefining renewable energy by transforming the simple act of walking into a viable power source. In high-traffic corridors like Shibuya Station, specialized piezoelectric tiles are embedded into the flooring to capture kinetic energy. When a pedestrian steps on a tile, the pressure creates mechanical stress that is instantly converted into electrical energy via piezoelectric materials.
While a single footstep generates a modest charge, the scale of Tokyo’s commutes—totaling over 2.4 million steps daily in key areas—creates a significant cumulative output. This harvested electricity is utilized to power local LED lighting, digital signage, and environmental sensors, creating a self-sustaining urban micro-grid. This technology represents a critical shift toward sustainable infrastructure, reducing the carbon footprint of public spaces without requiring lifestyle changes from citizens. By integrating high-tech engineering into the literal foundation of the city, Japan continues to lead the global transition toward innovative, eco-friendly energy solutions.

Major investment firms have recently shown strong interest in the U.S. energy sector, particularly electric utilities. As digital infrastructure expands, data centers, cloud computing, and AI systems are driving a surge in electricity demand. Training large AI models and operating global data networks require vast, stable power supplies, making energy infrastructure a critical part of the modern tech economy.
Private equity and asset management firms often invest in utilities because they offer long-term, regulated returns and are tied to essential services. With pressure on aging grids, renewable integration, and rising consumption from industrial and digital users, energy companies are seen as strategic assets rather than just traditional infrastructure.
The broader trend reflects a shift in where capital flows: beyond software and platforms, investors are focusing on the physical systems that support digital growth — power generation, transmission networks, and grid modernization. In an increasingly electrified world, reliable energy is becoming as important to the tech economy as chips, data, and connectivity.

Could the United States achieve energy independence with a 100-mile by 100-mile solar field?
According to Elon Musk, it can, but I want to know if you agree with him. Let me know in the comment section ⬇️
Upon researching this statement to support it with facts, I began to question its complexity. Covering an area 100 miles by 100 miles with solar panels could generate a significant amount of power, but feasibility depends on various factors such as energy consumption, efficiency, and storage capabilities. You would need a mile-by-mile area to house all the batteries for that large field 😲.
It’s complex because it involves considerations beyond just physical space, including technological advancements and energy infrastructure. At this point in time, I believe solar advancements need to go a little further to be more efficient before we invested in a solar field that large.
However, for the purpose of OUR homestead, we invested and are installing a small solar field ourselves to help provide us power and rely a little less on the grid.
One goal is to generate the electricity needed to run the wood burner, keeping energy costs lower in the winter for heat but also act as a fail safe. In the event of a power outage we would still have the capability to it running.
Follow along with us @norleyfamilyfarms as we build out our homestead toward self-sufficiency! 🌱☀️
