Where Greenland, Russia, America and Europe meet… NOTES: In theory, Russia’s Northern Fleet could reach the Atlantic via three routes: through the GIUK Gap; via long Arctic passages north of Greenland; or through the English Channel. In practice, the Channel is a near-impossibility for submarines: it’s shallow, narrow, crowded with civilian traffic and among the most intensively monitored waters on Earth. Arctic routes are far longer, logistically punishing, seasonally constrained, ice-choked (often requiring ice breakers) and offer few safe transit or sustainment options. That’s why the GIUK Gap remains the only viable, scalable exit for a modern Russian submarine fleet

Unpredictable, relentless, and physically draining. 2. 🌌 Swimming in the dark, starting at 4:12 AM, with nothing but a few swim lights. 3. ☀️ Constant sun exposure, no shade, no break, just heat bouncing off the water. 4. 🚢 Huge ships and vessels, their wakes created powerful, disorienting swells. 5. 🌧️ Cold weather and rain, chilling the body and testing their mental grit. 6. 😴 Tiredness, overcome only by discipline, teamwork, and belief in each other. 7. 🪨 Landing in France, not on a beach, but on rocks and cliffs they had to climb. 8. 🏅 Joy and elation, a moment of triumph they’ll remember for life. Hundreds stuck beneath English Channel Hundreds of passengers were stuck beneath the English Channel for 5+ hours on Tuesday, after their train broke down in the middle of the Channel Tunnel. Footage shared on social media shows folks having to walk portions of the 31-mile underwater tunnel on foot.
