Every April, Child Abuse Prevention Month is an opportunity to learn about the signs of child abuse and how to prevent it. Communities around the nation come together to support families and children by reinforcing strategies that are working. Outreach programs, resources, and activities offer tools for identifying abuse and neglect. With each opportunity, we bring hope to families and come closer to an end to child abuse and neglect.

STOP BELIEVING THIS: "It won't happen in our community or with people we trust." Peer-to-peer sexual harassment happens in every community, wealthy, poor, urban, rural, religious, secular. No community is immune. Denial doesn't protect kids. Prevention education does. When we believe 'it won't happen here,' we miss the warning signs of inappropriate peer behavior happening right in front of us. Protect your community. Why “Stranger Danger” Doesn’t Work Most children are harmed by someone they know, not a stranger. Teaching “don’t talk to strangers” gives a false sense of security and leaves kids unprepared when unsafe behaviour comes from a familiar face. It’s time to move beyond fear and teach real skills: how to recognise early warning signs, build a safety team, and know what to do if someone makes them feel uncomfortable. That’s exactly what my Safe4Kids Online Parent Course helps you do—step-by-step, at home, in a way children understand. 👉 Join today and learn how to truly keep your child safe: link in bio
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and it’s right around the corner. Today, some of our team members are sharing why they think prevention is so important in our communities. 🩵 Stay tuned for how you can get involved in child abuse prevention throughout April!
Child Abuse Prevention Programs work because they give parents and children practical help early, so problems like stress, isolation, and unsafe situations don’t spiral into abuse. These are the Child Abuse Prevention Programs we currently offer in our community: • Training with Impact: A prevention training for staff, partners, and community collaborators to build a stronger referral network for families so together we can reduce the risk of child abuse and neglect. • Self-Esteem Building Workshop: This workshop promotes self-esteem and resilience among young readers. Through June 2026, our Prevention Team will be touring all seven branches of the Newark Public Library, offering this empowering program to the public. • Community-based Caregiver Training: A 5-week program, offering caregivers tools and support to strengthen family bonds and cope with everyday challenges. • Know and Tell Trainings: We train caregivers and all adults to know the signs of child abuse, that we’re all mandated reporters in NJ, and when to make that call to report. We answer questions like these: Will I be identified if I call it in? Do I need proof to call in suspected child abuse or neglect? If you'd like us to bring these programs to your agency or organization, email Chris Ann, Director of Prevention Services at [email protected]. #ChildAbusePrevention #ChildAbusePreventionServices #PreventChildAbuse #WynonasHouse #EssexCounty #ChildAdvocacy #ChildAdvocacyCenter #NewarkNJ #NewJersey
