One blistering sunburnâespecially as a kid or teenâcan more than double your risk of melanoma later in life. And if youâve had five or more? That risk climbs even higher. UV radiation damages your DNA at the cellular level. Your skin might forget the pain, but your cells remember the injury.
The good news? Itâs preventable. Use broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher. If youâre concerned about chemicals, stick to mineral sunscreens with zinc oxide or titanium dioxideâtheyâre safe, effective, and dermatologist-approved.

Pre-cancer spots can look like harmless rough patches, but left untreated, they can turn serious.
Fluorouracil (âchemo creamâ) pulls hidden pre-cancer cells to the surface and treats them.
𧴠Apply to the whole area, not just a spot.
â ď¸ Redness & scabbing = the medicine working.
â
If you have a dry, scaly patch that wonât heal, see a dermatologist early.
Huge thanks to @mat5o for bravely sharing his journey and helping raise awareness.

These types of posts are never meant to scare people, but rather raise awareness about the serious nature of certain forms of skin cancer and how they can be prevented (or caught early).
Please spread the word about the risk of melanoma on the lower extremities of women! The calves, especially, are not an easy area to keep an eye on, but should be checked regularly.

Finished the 5 days of the Klisyri Chemo Cream and it wasnât as awful as so many people said it would be. I didnât realize, but there is another chemo cream so many people shared they used and it caused so many more symptoms than what I experienced. Iâm sharing as I didnât know what to expect and a lot of the feedback I got from some of my followers was way worse than I experienced (again so many used a different chemo cream than the one that was prescribed to me by my doctor.) From what I read, a doctor in the woodlands said she started prescribing this over the other chemo cream since patients wouldnât & couldnât finish their chemo cream due to side effects and how painful the other chemo cream is. This is supposed to be less sensitive and as a person with sensitive skin, I would agree it wasnât that bad.
An update from today: The nurse said by day 8 leisons might appear (I am only on Day 5), I potentially will peel for the next 2 weeks & I have 4 weeks from now to recover from this medicine. Hoping this ends this skin cancer journey. đ¤đť
I hope no one has to deal with skin cancer of any form, but it hopfully this will help you know what to expect if you have to do this. I also saved more under my skin cancer journey (story highlights âGET CHECKEDâ)
And this is your reminder to get your skin checked. Only once a year can save your life. Early detection is key.

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common type of skin cancer, but itâs also the most treatable if caught early. đŠş
It often appears as a pearly bump or red patch on areas of the skin exposed to the sun, like your face or neck. âď¸ While BCC doesnât usually spread, it can cause significant damage if left untreated.
Early detection is key to protecting your skin from further harm. If you notice anything unusual, donât waitâget it checked out by a dermatologist! đŠšđĄ

Sunscreen isnât optional. Itâs cancer prevention. đâď¸đ§´
The truth about sunscreen, Black people, and skin cancer prevention.
Thereâs no evidence that sunscreen prevents melanoma in people with richly pigmented skin.
Science. Not falsehoods.

SKIN CANCER can present itself in multiple ways - here are examples of
1. Basal cell carcinoma: can present as a pimple like bump that is not healing - it can be pink or skin colored. Sometimes it can look like a small pink patch or even a scar like growth
2. Squamous cell carcinoma in situ: can present as a scaly pink or red patch that is not going away. SCC can also present as a warty growth or a tender pink bump.
3. Lentigo maligna: a type of melanoma, that can present as a brown discolored patch, usually irregular in color and shape and some reported change in a sun exposed area
If you have anything that resembles the above, GET IT CHECKED â
Skin cancer can be easily treated when caught early, so donât wait if you have something you are concerned about.
