This level of erosion in peanut fields is uncommon, but it’s a powerful reminder of the importance of soil conservation. 🌱 #peanuts #erosion #landconservation
The problem was never the apple—it was always the soil beneath it. Healthy soil is far more than dirt. It is a living ecosystem filled with billions of microorganisms, fungi, bacteria, and insects that quietly sustain every plant we grow. For thousands of years, this hidden world built fertile land, stored water, recycled nutrients, and made agriculture possible. Today, much of that living system is under pressure. Intensive farming, erosion, and unsustainable land management have degraded soils in many parts of the world, while the food on supermarket shelves can still appear perfect. The appearance of our harvest doesn’t always reveal the condition of the earth that produced it. Protecting soil means protecting food, water, biodiversity, and future generations. Every healthy forest, every nutritious crop, and every thriving ecosystem begins underground. If we want a better future, we must stop judging food only by how it looks—and start caring for the living soil that makes life possible. #healthysoil #regenerativeagriculturemovement #sustainableliving #foodsecurity #vintagevillage Healthy Soil, Soil Health, Living Soil, Regenerative Agriculture, Sustainable Farming, Microorganisms, Mycorrhiza, Fungi, Bacteria, Biodiversity, Topsoil, Food Security, Climate Resilience, Organic Matter, Soil Conservation, Ecosystem Restoration, Nature, Agriculture, Environmental Awareness, Vintage Village

This International Soil Conservation Day, we celebrate the power of Regenerative Agriculture. 🌱 Along with @cimmyt and other main partners, we're helping strengthen soil health, protect ecosystems, and build a more sustainable value chain. By the end of 2025, we reached more than 500,000 hectares promoting Regenerative Agriculture practices across more than seven countries. Caring for the soil means Nourishing a Better World.
It was hard narrowing down our Andes project to just 40 photos 📸🌱🦙 Planting trees in the Andes can bring many benefits to both the local ecosystem and communities. Here are some of the simple benefits: 🌲Carbon sequestration: By planting trees in the Andes, we can help reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. 🌱Soil conservation: Trees help to prevent soil erosion and improve soil fertility by reducing the impact of raindrops on the soil surface and promoting the accumulation of organic matter. 💧Water conservation: Trees play a vital role in regulating the water cycle. By planting trees in the Andes, we can help to conserve water resources. 🦜Biodiversity conservation: Trees provide habitats for many species of animals and plants. We can help to conserve the rich biodiversity of the region. 💰Economic benefits: Trees provide many products that are of economic value, such as timber, fruits, and nuts. In the Andes, we can help to create new income-generating opportunities for local communities. VETIVER GRASS — NATURE’S SLOPE PROTECTOR Can grass help protect railway tracks during heavy monsoons? Vetiver grass (Chrysopogon zizanioides) has a dense, deep root system that makes it useful in soil conservation and slope stabilisation. 🚆 Why Vetiver? • Helps prevent soil erosion • Reduces surface runoff • Strengthens vulnerable slopes • Supports eco-friendly slope protection • Can complement conventional engineering solutions From Bhor Ghat to Thal Ghat, the idea is simple: 🌱 DEEP ROOTS → STRONGER SLOPES → SAFER INFRASTRUCTURE A beautiful example of how biology, environmental science and engineering can work together. In this insightful video, Sujaya Dangwar from @wotr.india (Watershed Organisation Trust), a valued partner organisation of BRLF, breaks down the concept of watershed management into simple terms. With her expertise and experience, she provides practical insights into the watershed management process, highlighting the crucial steps involved and the impact it can have on local communities and the environment. Watershed management involves carefully planning and implementing strategies to conserve and manage water resources within a specific geographical area, known as a watershed. Through various techniques such as soil conservation, afforestation, and water harvesting, watershed management aims to prevent soil erosion, enhance water quality, and improve overall ecosystem health. #watermanagement #watershed #irrigation #sustainablelivelihoods
Food security and environmental health go hand in hand. 🌍 On #EarthDay, we highlight how WFP works with farmers to promote sustainable water use, soil conservation, and improved agricultural practices — ensuring productive land today and for generations to come.

earthworks in a tropical setting, likely for infrastructure or agricultural development. The activity appears to involve laborers using manual tools alongside heavy machinery to excavate red clay soil. Similar scenes are documented in the context of rural development projects, such as those related to soil conservation or water resource management. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Today we celebrate Soil Conservation Day 🌱🌍💚 In each vineyard, we work with passion to maintain the health of the soil. Through the use of techniques such as crop rotation, planting cover crops and responsible water management, we promote biodiversity and the natural fertility of our soils. The soil supports life, development and production, it is part of our duty to take care of it, promoting activities that positively influence the soil, such as good agricultural practices 🌿 #DíaDeLaConservaciónDelSuelo #AndelunaSustentable #SueloSanoVidaSana #SomosAndeluna #Andeluna
