I’ve always thought that Roy & HG could make a great commentary show about a harvest team. There’s something pretty special about how all the moving parts work together to get the job done at this time of year. If I had to pick a sports analogy, I’d say truckies are the Goal Keepers of the harvest team. Without them you’re…(insert expletive)…and a good one can make all the difference. Rob really wanted to chat while he didn’t have much on and wasn’t trying to unload his truck and beat the forecasted rain. I let him. 😉 P.S. this is barley. #buyfromthebush #cityandcountry #harvest #barley #trucks #logistics #farming #cropping

Dear all - 1. Clean the barley well with water 2-3 times 2. Soak in water for 30 min. Ratio of water doesn’t matter. Use excess water. Example 2-3 cups water for 1/2 cup barley 3. Pressure cook for 4-5 whistles. Strain the excess water Enjoy it hot with your fav gravies #vegan #plantbased #vijimoo #barley #ricesubstitute
Barley 101 / How to cook & why to eat! I fist discovered Barley in a salad while traveling outside India- ironic, because this ancient grain has a long history in India, with references dating back to the Rig Veda. Believed to be cooling, Barley is ideal for the heat wave hitting us hard in summers and it’s quickly become a staple, not just for its health properties, but also for its distinctly delightful chewy toothsome texture that is amazing for everything from a refreshing salad to a smart stir-fry. The first few times I cooked it, I ended up with a gummy mess, so I’m sharing the way to get perfect pearls of barley each time + Dr Vaishali @vedamrit_ shares the benefits of Barley which will make you pat yourself on your back for making this truly ‘health bhi, taste bhi’ choice! In this video, and all my recipes I use pearled barley, which is de-husked barley. Look for that if you’re planning to order and cook some soon, to try the recipes I’ve shared! PS: don’t discard the water that is strained- dilute and drink it, knead roti dough with it or add it to creamy soups. #barley #ayurvedicfood #ayurvediclifestyle #ayurvedicdiet #summerfood #coolingfoods #gutfriendly #ancientgrains #diabetesfriendly
I have a new love … Orzo! First tried in Italy as an alternative to decaff coffee after dinner. It has a really good flavour - gut health friendly and no caffeine. I’ve tried so many brands to find the ones I think taste best - this powdered one is called Bimbo Orzo and the capsules are by Borbone. I’ve put. link in the Linktree in my main Bio. I also like Barley Cup from @avogeluk_health - a delicious blend that includes barley and chicory (I discovered this @buchingerwilhelmi when I went for an extended caffeine-free fast). Thoughts? Will you try? I think it’s really tasty and barley is a nice bit of diversity to feed our microbiome. LX PS I still LOVE coffee - I just have a bit later, for reasons I explain here. Barley beancurd has a special place in my heart. 🥰 If you've never had a tong sui  — a category of soupy desserts in Chinese cuisine — in your life, you're missing out! This classic one with beancurd, barley, and ginkgo nuts, called fuzhuk yimai (腐竹薏米) is just about the most comforting one out there. 😌 And it's truly the gateway dessert into tongsui heaven~ I'll make this every so often, and since the weather has been rainy lately, this warm comfy dessert hits just right~ ♨️ Here's my perfect ratio to get the milkiest silkiest fuzhuk yimai: 2L (8 cups) water 150g barley 100g ginkgo nuts, peeled 100g yuba/beancurd skin (get the melty ones meant for desserts) 80g rock sugar or granulated sugar 3g salt Super simple, I just tossed everything in a pressure cooker and cooked it for 40 minutes. ___ #barley #beancurd #gingko #tongsui #糖水
No Rice or Rava Idli Dosa Batter / Perfect for Summer ☀️ Recipe Barley - 2 cups Moong dal - 3/4 cup Urad dal - 3/4 cup Fenugreek seeds - 1/2 tbsp Rinse couple of times or until the water runs clear Soak for 5 to 6 hours Grind into a smooth consistency by adding some water. The batter should be neither too thick nor too runny. Add Salt accordingly Mix well (preferably with your hands for better fermentation) Cover and let it ferment overnight (for 8 hours) For idlis, steam them for about 12 - 15 minutes on medium heat. Start timing after the steam starts coming out well. To check, insert a toothpick or knife, if it comes out clean, your idlis are done. Let them rest for 2–3 minutes before removing for soft and fluffy results You can store your barley idli dosa batter in the fridge for about 3 to 4 days in an airtight container. Since it’s fermented, the batter may become a little more sour over time, so try to use it within 2–3 days for the best taste and texture. Always keep it refrigerated and mix it well before using. This barley idli dosa batter is a great summer-friendly option because it’s light, cooling, and easy on the stomach. Since it’s made without rice, it’s higher in fiber, which helps digestion and keeps you full for longer without feeling heavy. The natural cooling effect of barley helps manage body heat and keeps you refreshed in hot weather. Fermentation also adds good probiotics, supporting gut health. Overall, it’s a healthy, wholesome, and energizing meal that’s perfect for staying comfortable and nourished during summer Follow for more healthy recipes ✨ Have courage and be kind ✨🫶 Idli Batter, DosaBatter, Breakfast recipes, Gut healthy, Fermented foods, Barley Idli Batter, No Rice Idli Batter, South Indian food, South_cookery, Southcookery batter recipes, Easy recipes . . #idli #norice #barley #weightloss #southcookery
