First-language speakers ask for clarification all the time.
They don't apologize. They just ask.
What do you mean? Sorry, can you repeat that? Could you explain?
Asking for clarification isn't a weakness. It's a communication skill.

Stop Mixing These Up: SAY vs TELL
“Say” and “tell” are two very common English verbs, but they are used differently.
SAY = to speak words.
You normally do not mention who you are speaking to.
• “She said she was tired.”
• “He said hello.”
TELL = to give information to someone.
You must mention the person.
• “She told me she was tired.”
• “He told his friend the news.”
Quick note: In spoken English, you may hear both ‘She told me she is tired’ and ‘She told me she was tired’.
I used the present because the situation still feels true now. Both can appear depending on the context.

So many people stress over their English and forget the first and most important point.
English is a language, it’s all about people.
It’s all about communication.
So next time you feel the pressure, focus on expressing yourself, who you are and what you want to share instead of stressing yourself out over Past Simple or Present Perfect.
Just be You 😌
