Follow for more family travel finds like this 🌿 Had a great visit to Chartwell in Kent — such a nice experience with kids. The house tour is relatively short, which worked perfectly, and instead of an audio guide there are staff in each room you can talk to. Being able to ask questions made it feel much more personal. There’s also plenty outside to explore, including play areas for kids (a bit of a walk to get to them), beautiful grounds, and really good café food as you’d expect from a National Trust site. Quick tip: bring comfortable shoes and a water bottle. If you’re looking for things to do in Kent with kids, this is definitely worth a visit. Churchill, famous for his many galvanising speeches and wartime leadership, lived at Chartwell with his family from 1922 to his death in 1965. Today the National Trust looks after the house and gardens. I didn’t go in the house this time but let me know if you’d like me to when I go back! Christmas at @chartwellnt comes with a special commission this year… The National Trust invited us to create a one-off sculpture inspired by Colonist, Churchill’s beloved grey mare. Standing in his home, surrounded by festive lights and history, I couldn’t help but imagine Churchill himself settling into his armchair, cigar in hand, giving this piece a slow approving nod… perhaps even saying she looks just as she did on the gallops. This unique sculpture will be available to acquire after Christmas — a little piece of Chartwell magic.
