🇫🇷⚜️ Composers have a long history of imitating what they think different peoples and places must have sounded like (or will sound like) - Royer wrote this piece about eastern Iranian people 2,000 years before him, Mozart and many of his contemporaries wrote about the Turkish people, and Holst even wrote about what space and various planets sound like. 😉

I don't have much time to practice, but here's the latest piece I'm working on : Rameau's "L'Égyptienne." I know it was composed for harpsichord 😅 but I'd never played Rameau' pieces before, and I really like the harmonies. I like how it sounds on the piano. I play a Kawai model GX6 btw.
I also noticed that Rameau's music was frequently played as an encore by renowned concert pianists, as if it were somewhat the "moment pieces". Do you enjoy Rameau's pieces as well ?
Happy to share with you 🥰

Rondeau from Les Baricades Mistérieuses by François Couperin (1668-1733) · Dr. Kristina Rizzotto, harpsichord
Les Barricades Mystérieuses (The Mysterious Barricades) is a piece of music that François Couperin composed for harpsichord in 1717. It is the fifth piece in his Ordre 6ème de clavecin in B-flat major, from his second book of collected harpsichord pieces (Pièces de Clavecin). It is emblematic of the style brisé characteristic of French Baroque keyboard music.
The work is in rondeau form, employing a variant of the traditional romanesca in the bass in quadruple time rather than the usual triple time.
In the view of Tom Service,
“The four parts create an ever-changing tapestry of melody and harmony, interacting and overlapping with different rhythmic schemes and melodies. The effect is shimmering, kaleidoscopic and seductive, a sonic trompe l’oeil that seems to have presaged images of fractal mathematics, centuries before they existed.”

Dr. Kristina Ziema Rizzotto has played concerts in Argentina, Brazil, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, and throughout the USA. She was named a member of The Diapason‘s 20 Under 30 Class of 2017, which recognizes young leaders in the fields of organ, harpsichord, carillon, and church music. Dr. Rizzotto is also a self-published composer for organ, choir, and piano, with emphasis in sacred repertoire for religious services. Several of her original hymn introductions and reharmonizations are available for free download (PDF) at www.kristinarizzotto.com.
Dr. Rizzotto is the Director of Music at Lake of the Isles Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, and she was previously the organist at the Benedictine Abbey of Rio de Janeiro, built in 1590 and home of one of the oldest organs in South America.

Jean-Philippe Rameau - Nouvelles Suites de Pieces de Clavecin - Suite in G Major RCT 6: No. 14 Les Sauvages
Great performance by Grigory Sokolov
Saal Berliner Philharmonie - June 5, 2013
Les Sauvages is a musical piece composed by Jean-Philippe Rameau in 1728 for solo harpsichord. It later became a central part of his 1735 opera-ballet Les Indes galantes, where it was used as the music for the “Danse des Sauvages” in the final act. The work is one of Rameau’s most famous compositions and is known for its lively, rhythmic energy and evocative character.
Rameau first wrote Les Sauvages as a harpsichord piece, which was published in his Nouvelles Suites de Pièces de Clavecin (c. 1728). The composition was inspired by a performance he witnessed in 1725 at the Théâtre-Italien in Paris, where two Native American chiefs from Louisiana performed a dance as part of a diplomatic visit to France. Their movements fascinated Rameau, leading him to compose a piece that captured the spirit of their dance.
When Rameau expanded Les Indes galantes in 1735, he incorporated Les Sauvages as a dance for the final entrée, titled Les Sauvages, which depicted an idealized meeting of European and Native American cultures.

Third person Harpsichord RPG!
Rameau’s “Tambourin” and the continuo part of Blavet’s flute sonata
With our harpsichordist of 1737 Telemann in Paris” - Han-na Lee in Taiwan
