Brought to tears…❤️🎶 When we started our album all we knew was that music plus poetry can be special. In September we recorded it. I’d been recording strings all morning while Len had been in the studio next door laying down her performances. I popped in at our first break to see how it was going. Exhausted after a month of travel and finishing off the tracks, it’s hard to explain what came over me. The entire room had been feeling like this all morning. It’s something extra-ordinary hearing it. I burst into tears, and there’s something about this track and Len’s stunning performance which gets me caught up in the moment every time. 🧠 What are delusions? Delusions are fixed beliefs that feel completely real, even when there’s clear evidence against them. They are not imagination, ignorance, or stubbornness — they’re brain-based experiences. 🔍 Common examples (not choices): • Believing others are secretly watching or following you • Being convinced a partner or friend is plotting harm • Believing your thoughts are being controlled or broadcast • Being certain you caused a major disaster without evidence • Believing you have special powers or a unique mission ⚖️ Why diagnosis is complex Beliefs exist on a spectrum. Culture, trauma, mood, and context matter. Psychiatrists take time to distinguish delusions from strong beliefs or trauma responses — it’s never a quick label. 🤍 What it’s like to live with them These beliefs can be terrifying and isolating. Being told “that’s not real” can feel dismissive when it is your lived reality. The distress is real — even without insight. 🧩 Important reminder Delusions are not character flaws. Jerusalem syndrome is a rare psychological condition in which a person develops intense religious or spiritual delusions after visiting Jerusalem. Individuals affected may believe they are a biblical character, a prophet, or chosen for a divine mission. The condition is most often temporary and usually occurs in people who already have an underlying mental health vulnerability, though in rare cases it appears without any previous diagnosis. Symptoms can include anxiety, confusion, obsessive religious behavior, compulsive preaching, and dressing in white robes or attempting ritual purification. Treatment typically involves removing the individual from the triggering environment, providing psychiatric care, and, when necessary, short-term hospitalization. Delusions of grandeur. Do not underestimate a narcissist's ability to lie to themselves. They will change reality if it means avoiding responsibility. Narcissists aren't lying to you when they say it wasn't their fault, because to them it never happened. Now don't get me wrong, they are most definitely lying, but they are so deep in their own delusions that when they speak their lies, they fully believe in it.
