ANZAC Day is just over a week away — time to get baking.
Once again, I’ve partnered with iconic Kiwi oat brand @harrawaysnz — we’re on a mission to get the country baking to commemorate this important day. Why Harraways? They’re the only New Zealand-grown and milled oats, and after 158 years, they know a thing or two. This year, I’ve added a little twist to the classic ANZAC biscuit: finely chopped dates and a touch of orange zest. Optional, of course — but judging by the boys polishing off the whole batch in one night, they were a hit. They’re easy to make and freeze beautifully. Funny story… I put a big batch of biscuits into the freezer to slow the boys down. A week later, the box was mysteriously half-empty. Turns out, they’re just as good frozen! Recipe:  50g butter 2 tbsp golden syrup ⅓ cup caster sugar ½ cup Harraways Rolled Oats ½ cup Harraways Scotch Oats              ¾  cup desiccated coconut ½ cup plain flour ½ tsp baking soda 2 tbsp warm water Pinch Sea salt 8 dates finely chopped 1 vanilla pod seeded Zest 1 orange Method: 1. Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F). Line a baking tray with baking paper. 2. In a small saucepan, melt the butter, golden syrup, chopped dates, vanilla and orange zest together over low heat. Stir until well combined, then remove from heat and let it cool slightly. 3. In a small bowl, mix the baking soda with warm water, and then add it to the melted butter and golden syrup mixture. Stir well. 4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients, Harraways rolled oats, Harraways scotch oats, caster sugar, desiccated coconut, and plain flour. 5. Pour the melted butter mixture into the dry ingredients bowl and mix until smooth and well combined. 6. Take spoonfuls of the mixture and roll them into balls. Place them on the prepared baking trays, and flatten with your hand. Sprinkle with sea salt. 7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 18 minutes or until the biscuits are a deep golden brown. 8. Remove from the oven and allow the biscuits to cool on the trays for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.

It’s officially our favourite month of the year - ANZAC month 🍪 The smell of delicious oaty biscuits is filling the Harraways kitchen. Tell us your fave below and you could be in to win a delicious oaty goodie pack from us!
Anzac Biscuit Inspired Porridge! You can try this delicious little treat at @bowl.and.arrow now untl May 3rd. My Anzac biscuit-inspired porridge. I use Harraways oats for my ANZAC recipes - a true Kiwi brand for a true Kiwi tradition. Ingredients: 3/4 cup @harrawaysnz rolled oats 3/4 cup milk of your choice 3/4 cup water 1/2 a banana mashed 1 tbsp desiccated coconut Pinch of cinnamon Crispy caramelised oat topper: 1 heaped tbsp butter 2.5 tbsp golden syrup ¼ cup whole oats Extra toppings: Sliced banana, toasted coconut chip, and lots of golden syrup Using a small pan, melt the butter and stir in the golden syrup. Add the whole oats and stir until the oats are well coated. Let them simmer away until they are golden and crispy. Set aside on a plate to cool. Add the rolled oats, water, milk, mashed banana, desiccated coconut and cinnamon into a saucepan. Simmer on a medium heat, stirring often until cooked. Pour the porridge into a bowl, sprinkle some of the crispy oats on top, and I also add sliced banana, some toasted coconut chips, and a seriously good drizzle of golden syrup! Serves 1 Notes: There will be some caramelised oats left over, pop them in a jar for the next day or two!
One of my favourite fertility foods? Oats 🥣 As a Fertility Dietitian, I often recommend Harraways Oats because they’re wholegrains and made here in NZ. Packed with fibre and a modest amount of protein, which helps keep blood sugars stable. And stable blood sugars are key for hormone health. There’s also evidence linking higher wholegrain intake to improved fertility outcomes. For example, one study in IVF found that women with higher wholegrain intakes had a 53% higher embryo implantation rate compared to those with lower intakes (Roberts et al., 2017). When supporting women trying to conceive, I usually recommend aiming for at least 4 serves of wholegrains per day, and oats are an easy, practical way to help meet that. Tip: Overnight oats, porridge, or adding oats to baking are simple ways to get your daily serves! #ad #harraways #oatslover #wholegrains #FET embryoimplantation ivfnutrition fertilitydietitian uterinelining fertilityfood
